Try WefWef. Really impressive for a lightweight webapp. It behaves like. Real app once installed on your home page.

I really like wefwef visually, but the scrolling on the homepage is a bit too buggy tbh.

Not sure if it WefWef or the fact that the Lemmy server are under heavy load while being updated to beta versions an in a day.

2

Ever since I started using wefwef, about 3 days ago, it has had that issue—the other 4 clients I’ve tried haven’t.

Fwiw, I ain’t trying to throw shade at wefwef, it’s just something I’ve been a bit displeased to experience by using the app.

5

Same. Pace of development is impressive. 6 updates in the last 24 hours! And they’re noticeable improvements.

Crazy to see how quickly a handful of talented developers have managed to build several feature-rich Lemmy apps in such a short amount of time. Really drives home the point that the reddit's official app—with it's 80 person dev team—must just suck on purpose.

46

It’s not really the devs that are to blame, but the management team.

They even now have a part where you can export your Apollo JSON data to look for subreddits like the ones you followed. I unsubscribed from all my subreddits, but good for others.

Yeah, wish I had seen that prior to nuking my Reddit account and Apollo install from orbit. Oh well, get to just rediscover everything organically now

10

Apollo locked everyone out after the API changes anyway so there was no way to export as of yesterday.

2

Exactly what happened to me. I haven’t even tried anything else because I don’t feel like there’s a need.

It performs better than most native apps. These developers are rockstars.

7

Also is a great way to browse on the desktop. I have it open on the sidebar for Edge most of the day at work and do the same on SigmaOS while at home

3
lemmy.world

Currently trying LiftOff via testflight and it’s not bad… given the state of development. I must say I do also enjoy this “dev” state after Rexxit. Thanks for the screenshot. Looks like I have some other apps to try as well.

Im testing out Wefwef, Calipso, and Pulse. So far wefwef is the best and looks pretty similar to Apollo

15

Me too! And for squabbles I’m using their site and Pulse, Calisto just doesn’t appeal to me for now.

6

I really like the look and functionality of wefwef. My only complaint is all the animations are low fps since it runs in browser. Same thing happens even when I “install” it.

That might be a browser thing. I’m using it on an iPad Pro right now and the animations are full 120fps. The dev did an amazing job at making it feel like a native app.

1

I’m using a 13 pro max on iOS 17 beta. I know WebKit is limited to 60fps at least on iPhone. Maybe that limitation isn’t there on iPadOS and that’s why? Otherwise I am just gonna blame iOS 17 lol

13

Different priorities. One focuses on delivering more ads and monetizable features, while the others focus on making users happy enough to spend money on subscriptions.

1
feddit.de

I don't see the point of squabbles. It's just going to turn into reddit if it catches on. The fediverse at least has decentralization built in and is more flexible if someone becomes a jerk.

13

There are people that prefers a more straightforward reddit alternative, and Squabbles has been the most promising candidate so far. Not all wants to learn how all these fediverse stuff works.

Personally, I prefer Lemmy than Squabbles but it doesn’t hurt to contribute to more than 1 alternative to that shithole of a site.

8

yeah even their privacy policy already references an eventual buyout/acquisition so it's all gonna come down to profit driven motives eventually

Give connect for lemmy a shot. Almost everything RIF had is there, too.

8

Yeah +1 for Memmy. Really impressed with how far it’s evolved in such a short time. I personally can’t imagine ever getting that amount of work done tbh.

7

Aarrgghh. Got it. I thought I was missing an app for a moment!

Memmy is my go to at the moment. However all are showing a real rate of development and advancement that the developers amaze me.

It’s fun here. Long may it continue.

10

A+ folder name

Personally, I'm waitin for the Lemmy version of Sync to come out, but good luck in your search

12

Thanks to this thread, I discovered wefwef. It’s amazing what people can create in such a short amount of time! I legit feel like I’m using Apollo again.

9
feddit.de

Heh, that folder name gave me a good chuckle.

Memmy feels great to use so far. Their speed of development is amazing.

9
lemm.ee

Any Lemmy apps that remember your comment sort option? I vastly prefer "Top" to "Hot", but neither Jerboa nor Wefwef seem to have a way to change the default.

8

As of like a day ago, Memmy lets you change the sort order for comments. There’s no way to set the default yet, but I’m sure that will come at some point.

3

I have no idea who thought "Hot" was a good default sort for comments anyway. The sane default is obviously Top.

Not OP, but currently using WefWef, and imo it feels the best!

It’s like Apollo right? But I feel that sometimes it stutters. Or maybe just just lemmy

7
vlemmy.net

I’m on wefwef and yeah it stutters a bit but I it feels similar to early Reddit instability vibes, it’s not annoying me much

5
Zeractlereply

The creator has also updated it constantly the last few days and it has gotten much better so far

5

How does the update function work?

I open the web app from my Home Screen, see a notification for an update in settings. Tap update. Takes me back to main page with notification gone.

What exactly is it updating if it’s a web app?

1

It’s still only a web app, not a native application so performance won’t be ideal. It has been shockingly solid so far though, I’ve barely had any stuttering

1
lemmy.world

You haven't tested Thunder! That's what I'm currently trying this hour haha

6

This reminds me of when Google’s rss aggregator (google reader?) went down. It spurred a wealth of new development in that field that was great for users. The whole Reddit debacle is having a similar effect and I am loving it!

5

For me, at the moment, It's wefwef. Mlem, thunder and liftoff! Are also good, but wefwef works for me the Best.

5

Mine looks similar, though I haven’t got any squabbles. Gotta try a bunch and see what sticks! Two favourite apps at the moment are Memmy and Liftoff

4
lemm.ee

What is your favourite? I’m on wefwef because it’s similar to Apollo and is the only one I’ve tried haha.

3

For me it’s wef wef, Memmy is just a bit confusing to me, I’m not a poster and that’s something to consider. For squabble I use their site and Pulse is really nice to use, I’m trying Calipso too but just I find myself opening Pulse for better viewing.

2
kbin.social

How come when I search for these in the App Store nothing comes up? Are they early access only?

3

Everything with a yellow dot to the left of the name is a beta. You’ll need to use TestFlight to access them.

Get TestFlight from the App Store

4
lemmy.world

None of these are in my app store. None of the test flight apps request links have worked.

2

It is installed, but developers either aren’t sending out test codes or have no way to request one. I’m on wefwef thanks the comments to a separate post I made about this.

1

wefwef.app is a PWA (progressive web app). Just save the site to your Home Screen and it’ll act like an app but be run by your default browser

3

How did you get the actual lemmy.world app? I’m using liftoff for limmy.world, unless I’m doing something wrong and I’m sure I am. Lol

2

I also have like 6 installed. It’s helpful right now because posting and commenting frequently hangs forever on submit. The only way you can know your comment got posted is to switch to another app and check!

1

I’m using Mlem right now and liking it. I’ll check out the others. After all, it took me a while to find BaconReader for Reddit (rest in peace).
