Allow me to recommend banana boxes for storage. With the tops on the boxes, the contents are protected from light, have two layers of cardboard for insulation and stack beautifully.

I've been really good, eating home cooked meals for weeks, and a disgustingly healthy breakfast of red rice porridge with curry leaf puree and coconut milk.

I really feel like I could do with a pizza this week...

E: to add to this, I've been on decaf only since Sunday to reduce interactions with meds. I'm sure I deserve a medal at this point

aussie.zone

Sadly, now that I am carless it is also the worst weather to be hand carrying a box of pizza in... and the pizza joint is so close as to be ridiculous to get delivered from. It's just 350m away! But five minutes in the cold and wet is enough to ruin a pizza, I think...

4

I used to to order pizzas to be picked up fresh and had to walk 10-15 mins in the freezing cold of the night.

Trust me. It’ll last 350m as that’s only a 3-4 min walk and still be piping hot if you get it fresh.

3

Depending on where you are, the rain might have stopped. I dressed like it's 10 outside and it was surprisingly pleasant.

Took the day off and did my grocery shopping and treating myself out to a coffee today.

Been awhile since I’ve sat out and had a coffee to relax to.

Just said stuff it and spent the money for one.

Think I’m going to be making pasta sauce with random assortment of pasta for a few days.

Sadly some of the mince has freezer burn so I hope it’ll be ok to use and won’t taste too bad.

3
aussie.zone

Freezer burn is just a bit of dehydration, so sauce is the perfect thing to do with it.

Yup. Easy to make and tasty and comfort food for me.

Forgot the cheese but I’m not going out again.

My favourite thing about cats, is when you pat them sometimes, and they turn around and death stare you, then quickly groom the area you touched.

Dunno why, but it's so funny. I always apologise profusely and give a treat 🐱

A Bill and Ted Cat story.

Ted Cat has food issues, he can't seem to control himself, is aggressive and has a tendency to eat anything. Last week he scoffed a piece of corn chip I dropped.

Happened again today but this time Bill showed Ted that he shouldn't eat corn chips, it's not good food. Bill went up to the chip and shied away. After that Ted stopped licking the chip and pushed it away.

Bill is looking after Ted, teaching him things he should know but seems to have miss out on learning when he was kitten.

9
aussie.zone

This is heartwarming. After the initial suspicion, it seems Bill Cat is being 'mother'. So lovely to hear that Ted Cat is being civilised for life in a home.

Ok so I am officially nervous.. I have this little tray of roast vegetables which have instructions for cooking in the air fryer. It says take the plastic film off the tray.. great yep.. then put the tray in the fryer. The tray is plastic. I feel like this isn't right.

8

Perfect day to have my day-in-lieu; raining, cool, don't have to get wet on the way to work, bliss.

I'm gonna do the dishes, the laundry, and then relax with my mobile games. 😙👌

8

Awesome. I took the day off too and went grocery shopping and relaxing in a cafe now.

After I get home I’m going to get all cozy and play games all day.

Can U give me some mobile game recs? My new phone can play all sorts, but for the last couple years I've had a total due that was only good for chess

What are you looking for or ideally want from a mobile game?

2

Hmmmm. Good question! I used to play teamfight tactics, Dota underlords, hearthstone which I'll download and play. Not into FPS. More like turn based turn based strategy kind of stuff? PvP is highly desirable

First time I had sushi here I wondered why it’s not cut yet but I ate it like a burrito anyway

6
aussie.zone

I’m sure it’s delightful but according to the article it’s not the ingredients that define it surprisingly.

3

Yeah I made that up but how good would that be? Teriyaki ibis. Sweet n sour pulled wild boar. Better than tuna or fake crab.

3
Catfishreply
aussie.zone

What? Kangaroo tail needs to cook for hours, isn’t that rather contrary to sushi?

2

Nope. Sliced very thin it can be flash grilled. I do a dish where I freeze a chunk of tail or the back strap, then slice ultra thin on a mandolin against the grain. Dust slices with 5 spice and salt to taste, and, still frozen, put under a very hot grill lined with tinfoil for 1-2 minutes. Toss slices and grill again for 1-2 minutes and tip into a shallow bowl. Serve with crusty bread for the juices. Some bits will be crunchy, some bits will be very rare. The thinness of the slices means it's very tender. Sometimes I mix fresh snow peas with the slices - they're done in the same amount of time and provide some green crunch. Kanga done this way would actually be good on sushi I reckon.

4

Place near me does sushi rolls topped with Doritos and nigiri topped with cheese sauce. Definitely not for me, but I can appreciate them working to an outer west palate.

2

Everyone should get a free "Get Out of Work" card on days like today. I just want to be tucked up reading a book or watching something cosy.

7

It is currently very wet, with a forecast of "rain increasing". I do not think I will be getting any gardening done today!

It is, however, perfect weather to cook the pork roast I have in the fridge.

Totally tired from peeling 80kg of potatoes at work today. I rarely do that many in one sitting these days as my labour is more valuable in other areas of the factory. Forgot to use allergy spray and felt randomly itchy all day, and my eyes were 😵‍💫 which I haven't had before. Got home and cooked dinner and accidentally overcooked the steak whilst I was distracted by laundry related tasks, dammit. The Minipeelers were good about it thankfully.

aussie.zone

The rain wasn't too heavy at mine today. Persistent drizzle. Super windy. Not much water. My rain guage is only half full. I had them drop the soil on some old ply I keep around for this sort of thing. They didn't get here til about 11 and it was blocking the driveway so I got to it. Made me think I should buy a Kei tipper and do small access deliveries.

I’m looking for some new bedroom furniture, and so far am uninspired by what I’ve seen. It’s either from big box stores- dated or boring styles, shitty materials and flimsy, or from designer stores at ridiculous prices. My search continues for my goldilocks furniture. Or maybe I should give up and buy the boring stuff because am tired of looking. So much of it is same same. How can there be so much choice yet so little at the same time.

6
aussie.zone

Hit the government auction sites, the larger charity shops like the Vinnies/Salvos. The shops where they do furniture like the one in Trenerry Crescent in Abbotsford and the one in Smith St Collingwood.

3

I may check it out, but the reason I’m replacing it is I’m tired of the worn out set I currently have and want something nicer that will last me a while. So I think I’m gonna try for new but maybe finding something high quality second hand might work out too.

I found this too when I started looking, it's not easy. The affordable options are boring or made from crappy materials. I have a 3m wall that I'm trying to fit a king bed, means I need a bed frame which isn't super bulky and side tables that aren't huge. Limits the already limited options.

You can mix and match bedroom furnture which can be a cheaper way to do it. Not buying those packages where everything matches. That's all I know.

3
aussie.zone

So much bulkiness! So many super wide bedside tables. I think I'm gonna end up doing a mix and match to get what I like.

3

Yep, finding any besides less than 600mm wide is hard. And then when you do find them, the matching bedframe is bulky, or it's all cheap materials or ugly. A lot needs to go right to get the right bedroom furniture package. I'm going to mix and match too.

After a week of issues with Startrack, the package has arrived! Housemate is now gazing lovingly at their first fishing rod while also tugging on my sleeve to plan a trip.

We've got a camping trip up on Lake Eildon coming up, so we will probably save it all for that. Gives us a couple of days for them to work things out.

4

I seemingly accidentally ordered the 4 candles I bought to be delivered to a Parcel Locker I haven't used since pre-COVID (it's near my work) so urrrrrrrrrrrrrgh I have to go all the way across the CBD to get my candles. What a pain in the dick.

5

Hooray, finally got a response from the uni about a course application. Now to start writing the long email to the supervisor, dig around for all of the unit outline papers, and end up neck deep in paperwork while I'm at it.

At least it's excellent weather for staying inside and being at the computer for hours.

3

Hahaha always a scary possibility but also it's because I wear a fresh pair of undies for sleep and then a fresh pair for the next days activities.

1

It's because I like to put fresh undies on to sleep and then change them in the morning for the day.

Collect it, stuff it in a warehouse and then problem solved. Other option is to send it overseas to pollute someone else’s country. Then encourage everyone to consume more stuff, because the economy must have endless growth, or else.

2

a lot of cardboards can’t be recycled if they are contaminated in some way

...and this is where consumer education comes in. I know that my cheese crusted takeaway pizza lid can't be recycled, but the clean bottom half can be.

My kids allowed a facebook account when he turns 18. until then? Hard no. this includes any and all Meta products.

1
aussie.zone

Do kids even use Facebook these days?

An outright ban is probably not going to be the best option for dealing with social media. Especially if all their friends are using a site they will either find a way to use it without you knowing, or resent you for damaging their friendships and social standing and be unwilling to listen to any advice you have to give in that area.

A better option is to assess what they are using on a case by case basis, make sure they learn about why these products can be a problem and how to keep themselves safe, and make sure that they feel free to talk to you about what they are doing.

2

Agree, mostly... In my case I'm talking about a 7 and 10 year old, so they're just wanting to message their friends. They don't have phones, so it's only going to be on a tablet at home on wifi. It's just frustrating that it's through meta. I want some sort of free to use, safe, modern, messaging service that's cross platform and not a gateway to Facebook...or a meta company I guess.

4

As others have said, a plumber. They can investigate to find the source of the leak. Best to do it asap, as the longer the leak continues the more damage there might be to plaster or other areas, and might need costly repairs.
