Mods Wanted!

Hello members of programming.dev! Currently weve got communities popping up that are being requested from https://programming.dev/post/5189 (if you want a community make sure to throw it in there)

If you want to mod one of the communities feel free to say so down below! In order for Lemmy to allow you to be modded you need to have a post in the community first as well

If you start running a community make sure to get some posts in there for people to interact with and get some activity going!

  • Edit some communities now have hit two or more members of the mod team. If this is case you need to apply to those mods rather than me as im letting them handle how they want to run it

Hi :) I can help with C++

Also, would it be possible to add c/cpp_questions?

programming.dev

Alright ive added you. For cpp questions those can just go in the main community for now as there isnt much activity. If it makes sense to split up language community topics in the future when it grows then Ill look into doing so

4

I have limited time but I’d be happy to help mod the functional programming community for now and share the load or hand it off later if/when it grows and other people express interest in helping out.

5

How much does it pay? What are the hours?

I hear the last similar social media site had horrible pay, hours and in the end started to take heavily used features away from its users and was ran by a horrible CEO that looked like the embodiment of its platform.

programming.dev

I'm quite active on both /r/ExperiencedDevs and /r/cscareerquestions

It looks like we have ExperiencedDevs, but happy to mod a cscareerquestions if you're up to open it

5

programming.dev

Alright ExperiencedDevs still doesnt have a dedicated mod so thats open. In order to be modded on Lemmy you first need to have either a post or a comment in that community. Once you do one ill mod you over there if you want

For cscareerquestions there should be a similar community popping up soon once I get to making it. Its been requested in the requesting thread and should be making it soon

programming.dev

I know you have your hands really full, so when you have time and can create /c/teachprogramming and /c/learnprogramming I'll try to be of help there.

4

Yep should be making them next, been working through my list. Once I get them up ill reply to you again and then you can make a post for me to mod you (since Lemmy requires that you have a post in the community to be modded)

1

I'm the only poster in c/java now so I'll be a mod. I've never been a mod but happy to help.

4

@[email protected] can we also get a django/Django community? I'm happy to be an initial mod for it.

I would love to be able to point people in this direction as one of r/django's mods has chosen to step away due to Reddit's recent actions.

4

I can mod c/rust. I'm not crazy experienced, but Rust is my favorite language and I'd love to help support the Rust community here.

alright, lemmy requires that you have either a post or a comment in the community in order to be modded so if you make one I can add

1
programming.dev

I can help with Godot/game dev/Linux/rust/JavaScript/programmer humour. Idk if there is Haskell/bunjs right now

3
Ategonreply
programming.dev

Hey, some of those already have more than two mods so you would need to contact the mods of them to ask (the people on the mod list that arent admins)

In terms of the ones that dont theres typescript, javascript, and gamedev. And then theres humor and godot which im one of the mods for. Any community you would want to be a mod for you just need either a comment or a post in it

4
Ategonreply
programming.dev

For rust you would have to contact one of the current mods (the people on the mod list apart from me and snowe) since theyre above two mods. C you can be added to if you make a post or comment there. C++ is in a limbo state where its technically out of the instance so mods cant be added to it until thats fixed.

2
programming.dev

I can mod c/android_dev and c/kotlin if required since that's what my day primarily consists of, and those communities look lacking still, if needed.

3
Ategonreply
programming.dev

Alright if you make either a post of a comment in the communities I can add you (Lemmy requires that for me to add)

1

for being a python mod dm or reply to Jason (I think im the only one that got notifications for this)

2

Alright ive added you as a mod in clojure. The C++ community is in a limbo state currently for an unknown reason so I cant mod you in there yet (hence the longer name since its not showing up in the communities in the instance)

1
programming.dev

I am working primarily with .NET (c/dotnet) and C# (c/csharp). Although I have limited time, I can try helping moderate the two communities for the time being.

2

I have no problem with adding more mods, but unless I missed something I can't find any setting to do so. Except for the posts, all I can customize are the logo / banner images and the sidebar. Maybe I'm missing something or this can only be done by admins for the time being.

Would you mind tacking me on as a mod too? As long as @accuser is alright with it of course

1
programming.dev

If any community is lacking mods i can help, maybe /react since i work with it

2

Hey, for joining the Java mod team since they're two members already reach out and ask one of the two current mods there

1

Hello there! I recently joined, but I'm here because I saw and I loved the c/django community. I would be glad to help with moderation.

2
Ategonreply
programming.dev

rust and programming humor are both at two mods so the decision for accepting new members is up to the current ones. Im one of the mods in programming humor though and ill take another mod to help out. Linux is also at 1 so thats open to join. Since you put an or there let me know which one you would rather do (or if you want to do multiple)

1

alright added you, if you message me on matrix (send secure message button in my profile) ill add you to the humor staff chat

1
programming.dev

I'd like to be a mod on /c/javascript if possible. Just made the first post there.

2
Ategonreply
programming.dev

Ok if you make a post or comment on it I can add you (As Lemmy requires that to add people)

1
programming.dev

Hello. I've just found this brilliant instance and would happily devote some time to moderating a community. I see c/learnprogramming only has one (other than you) currently, perhaps I could lend a hand there?

1
lemmy.world

I'm interested in helping, if a community needs help.

  • C#
  • Java
  • Kotlin
  • Intellij (IDE)
1
Ategonreply
programming.dev

For all of those youll need to dm one of the current mods as theyre all at 2 or above so theyre deciding how theyre running it (and theres no intellij community atm) (people on the list that arent me or snowe)

You also need a post or a comment in the community to be modded there

1
lemmy.world

If you think it's worth it, feel free to make the Intellij community and appoint me as mod. I can't make it because it'll appear as .world.

I reached out to those mods.

Thanks!

1

Hmm. It's been 3 hours and it still hasn't propagated through. It's possible that it only does that when there is a post, then that gets published to the federation.

Can you make a first post and I'll see if I can find it and comment there?

1

Alright you just need either a post or a comment in the communities for lemmy to allow you to be modded

1

Ive modded you on nix, for neovim since theyre at two mods already theyre the ones deciding how they want to grow. You can dm one of them asking (howarddo or kahnclusions)

2
Ategonreply
programming.dev

Ive added you to golang. For java youll need to dm one of the two mods in the community since theyre already at 2 and you need either a post or a comment in kotlin to be modded there

1

I can help with golang and DevOps. Although golang for me is by necessity and not my main language, but happy to help where I can, to take load off of the admins.
