Celebrity flag waver standing there looks like he's being forced to go wave that flag by his mom.

14

Yes and having used the door himself on several overtakes before.

2

Alpine is being weird with two drivers willing to fight eachother is entertainment.

4

Yeah the fight for the 2nd is cool and all but..

DANNY GET ZHOU COMEON COWBOY LETS GET HIMMM YEEEEE HAW

Anyone else furiously drinking coffee to watch a race that should've been convenient but for some reason isn't?

8

Nope, it's a very convenient Sunday afternoon race for us Aussies, doesn't happen often.

7

Still not sure what they were thinking with the schedule. It’s crazy that it’s more convenient to watch the races live that are on the other side of the world than one a single time zone away. I’m just planning on starting the replay tomorrow morning. Don’t have the stamina to stay up that late anymore!

The explanation that I saw was that Europeans will be able to wake up and have a cup of coffee with the race. Apparently there are more fans there.

4

The explanation I saw was that the timing was adjusted to traffic needs on the strip.

4

Just waking up and getting ready to install myself in front of the tv. I do feel sympathy for you US fans, but I must admit I like these morning races.

3

You’re also American I take it? I’m about to go to Wally’s and grab a slushee and an energy drink just in case I need em. It’s starting midnight my time so not bad but if the ending goes to 3 that’s when I’ll need some caféine.

3

Leclerc will burn his tires, and perez will get him for the 2nd.

If the tires fall off too much, he might get got by piastri as well

Edit: piastri seems to be falling off, so it's probable lec could keep the 3rd

6

Welp. I am impressed by this race. Much better than I expected. As good of a first race as you can get.

6

4 way fight for the 1st, this race is shaping up to be fantastic.

Edit: OK maybe 3 way fight

I have no clue who I'd vote for as DOTD. Great work for Perez, but it's more a return to form from bad form than above and beyond IMO.

Also, poor Charles, he keeps making mistakes like this.

5

My vote would have gone for Perez if he were P1 now, right now it feels between Verstappen, Stroll and Sainz for me.

2

Yea too close to the Ferrari, I thought Carlos had wondered up there to congratulate Charles for a second

Expected this to be the biggest most exciting celebrity packed grid walk. It did not deliver.

Paris Hilton loves Las Vegas and F1, what more do you want?

1

Shockingly good race. I was very wrong about this venue. So very wrong.

4

I knew that corner would have a victim. The braking zone in a bend when it's this cold is difficult as hell

4

5s time penalty for Max? Man's gonna have a 30s lead by the end of the race.

3

Ah man, oil remnants on the even side of the starting grid is no good.

3

To quote Crofty from a couple seasons back: Quack, quack, overtake.

Remember that was that move you thought was dirty at first glance by Max. 😉

But very smooth indeed.

Ok. This race is surprising me. The conditions have seriously upset the field and is making it really interesting so far.

2
Junereply

Absolutely. I think Albon will stay in the points but it seems like they’ve lost their pace.

Did Verstappen overtake under the safety car when exiting the pits?

2
DV8reply
lemmy.world

There was a message about an unsafe release that was deemed no further investigation necessary. Don't think it was shown on F1TV either.

2
essteeyoureply
lemmy.world

Yeah. I saw that, but the unsafe release was a different thing. The event I'm talking about was directly after that as Verstappen slotted back in, he went ahead of either an Alpine or a Williams, I think.

I'll go back and look once the race is over.

Edit: I went back to lap 26/27 and Verstappen was definitely behind Ocon and then went past him while rejoining the pack.

4

He was behind him, yes, but you're allowed to overtake within the pit exit line, which is what he did. Move was legal.

1

Omg contact for Max. Holy shit what an eventful race.

2

Checo needs to do what Carlos did when he was leading. Keep Charles just in DRS and between himself and Max. I think it’s his only chance.

Checo P3.

2

Shame that Ferrari pit crew dropped the ball there with that long pit.

@wes 5 second Penatly for that T1 incident is not enough

Slap on the wrist for what Max did there

2

IMHO they should have let them swap, 5 second is meh - fair what could be seen from a racing incident (max not really predicting the grip right) to max being dumb and mean and just sending it

1

It almost feels like he's doing it on purpose at this point.

Wouldn't Verstappen get a significant higher amount of tyre wear with only half a front wing? I hope he wins so he can add to the record, but it seems rather unlikely.

1

IIRC that front wing endplate is mainly to manage outwash? So as long as the wing holds together without that plate, it should be fine

1

Perez needs to start applying more pressure on Leclerc now. Force him to make mistakes so he ruins his tyres. If anything they need to start acting like a team since they'll probably need to do it more next year.

1

I think all of the frontrunners at the back were fighting each other rather than those Infront for a while

1

Overshot in turn 12, ground the side of his car before ending in the back techpro of the runout.

1
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Come on Max!!!!!!!! That was dirty as fuck :/

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm wrong. Not sure what was Osama bin Russel doing

1
DV8reply
lemmy.world

Honestly looked like a racing incident. It was a very risky but valid move, but Russell couldn't have seen him.

I do wonder how that broken frontwing will work out now.

1

I feel like he went on the outside like crazy. Like he opened the door wide open just to shut it in his face. I think he got more damage than Max anyways, so I would say no penalty for this one.

1

5 laps in and I'm already regretting getting up so early

1

I don't know if I'd call that move messy, he seemed to be alongside far enough for Russel to have known

4

I think the five seconds is a fair penalty in general. It's just that Max' performance is so abnormally dominant that for him it doesn't matter.

Edit: and in lap 14 it seems like it would have been less of a penalty to let Leclerc regain position since if they pit now, he could end up 4th.

1

Anyways that was expected

In other news, COME ON DANNY GET SEARGANT COME ONNNNN GET HIM FOR THAT 16THHHHHHH

Edit: LETS GET ITTTTTT
