I believe it is a garden orb weaver spider, Eriophora Pustulosa, but I'd welcome a correction of anyone knows better. This spider was hanging from a web strand under the eave of my house. Fortunately it didn't decide to drop on me as I took the photo!
No lost eyes :) I found an image of the same spider where you can more clearly see the eyes.
Comparing this with these eye arrangements, they match the family of Araneidae (orb weavers)
Not sure what is going on there, but it may have lost an eye or two.
