What Mastodon server are you on?
Hey friends! I’m looking to sign up for Mastodon and would love to hear what drew you to the server you are on? Also, what are servers with good reputation?
Hey friends! I’m looking to sign up for Mastodon and would love to hear what drew you to the server you are on? Also, what are servers with good reputation?
I'm on https://mastodon.world, but for personal stuff I created https://ruud.social and for hobbies I run https://pool.social and https://musicworld.social.
Oh and I also have https://calckey.world but I don't post too much there.
LOL you run all of those Ruud! LOL
I run 11 fedi servers in total.
certifiable. LOL
Why, https://mastodon.world of course, since it's also ran by @ruud, the admin of lemmy.world. I feel he knows what he's doing with hosting better than most instances.
Well according to commenters and posters in some communities, they themselves are the smartest and should be running the show.
I'm sure they're welcome to, if they want to spin up their own instances. :D
See that would require more than being a keyboard warrior
Ah! I'm on Mastodon.world!
EDIT: You also asked for why. Well, I wrote a blog post about it, actually...
leftist.network
Seems kind of self-explanatory...
deacon.social, as I'm Christian. It's a niche community, but it works almost as well as the big instances, while defending the Federation system.
infosec.exchange, I don't work in infosec but it's a cool community
That was one of the two that Deviant Ollam recommended in a popular video
I'm over at https://mastodon.gamedev.place and enjoy it a ton.
There are a number of prolific game designers as well as tons of indie devs sharing knowledge + life updates. A very cozy instance without any hateful BS.
I'm on mstdn.social. The admin is really cool, and the server is big enough to my liking.
Same. I like Stux and find a good general instance a great way to discover people and connect.
Outside of the one time he gut defederated with mastodon.art too reactively, he’s been a fair and good moderator. Not too open (like mastodon.social) and not to overbearing (like mastodon.art)
With that being said, I do plan on switching to a smaller one once I get some good connections and feel like I’ve done my part to support the Fediverse as a whole. Just find a nice server of queer goofy dorks like me.
Now that I'm more aware about federation things and more servers appear in the wild, maybe I'll change to a smaller one too. But I'm too lazy, and I've already changed my first instance to mstdn.social a year ago.
I got my eye on beige.party lol. love it. Follow lots of folks there, but for now I'll sit tight on mstdn.social unless Stux gets weird on me.
Ha! Masto.ai is also a Stux property. I'm an Admin over there if you need a spot!
Linux.pizza because it had open registration at the time I created an account and I am interested in both, Linux and pizzas.
https://mastodon.social just as I am on https://kbin.social
I kept it simple.
Exactly. Same with https://pixelfed.social :P
I thing you can interact with Madtodon from kbin as well. It does both link/threads (lemmy) and microblog (mastodon). That's also what "boost" does. If you boost a post or comment, you retweet (retoot?) it to your microblog.
Just don't join any big instances. It will kill the purpose of fediverse.
Go to official mastodon site. lot of instances is listed there. Choose whatever instance you think will surve your purpose :)
I mostly active on my own (non-mastodon fediverse) instance, I do have account on small instance, but it is collecting the dust most of the time.
Given you are on Lemmyworld, I think it is better to join mastodon.world. It is also owned and managed by te same people who runs lemmyworld. I like their transparency.
I'm bias but Ruud runs a good ship!
If you can find a server, that is literally local in focus, I recommend that. Literally Geo local.
I thought about this but IDK something about my username basically including my regional information makes me uncomfortable.
tech.lgbt/ it's a bit self explanatory lol
fosstodon.org - They are very competent people and there to stay.
I run https://dmv.community for folks in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, and I run https://pixtagram.social Pixelfed instance.
I use kbin microblog feature to post to fedi
I'm on mastodonapp.uk for the same reason I'm on feddit.uk; I sought out a local instance.
kolektiva.social, the name is cool and it allows 10 000 long posts. Also, it's an anarchist instance and being an anarchist I kinda like that.
I'm on linux.pizza I'm a linux guy, and the server is administrated by a swedish guy, makes it easier to communicate with the admin. He also has been really great when I've been interacting with him :)
programming.dev
There are a lot of tech communities here. If you're geeky come and join us.
Otherwise, there are lots of options and comparisons here: https://github.com/maltfield/awesome-lemmy-instances
I have 4 Mastodon accounts, 1 on Vivaldi (as I use this browser), and 3 on Polish servers. My main one is on 101010.pl (largest Polish, can read formatted posts), other ones are on pol.social and mastodon.com.pl. I was also on calckey.pl, but Calckey appararently was not ready for use - the instance is now closing down. I have a Polish /kbin account (on karab.in), and WriteFreely and Mobilizon accounts.
Forgot about a Lemmy account, on Geddit!
I recently joined Fosstodon and so far it seems like a nice and well moderated place to connect with others about tech and open source.
I'm on mas.to. Chose it because it's got a decent UK presence (but isn't a UK-specific server), is quite popular, and the admin runs it well.
I’m hosting my own calckey instance now, but before that I was on techhub.social which was really nice!
I'm on neovibe.app however federation over there is completely broken right now
Update on this, federation on neovibe is fixed now
mastodon.social because I didn't want to spend time looking at a whole bunch of different servers and filter through them all. It's the biggest, so I just went on there.
Won't that just give worse performance, joining the most overloaded instance?
Same. Furthermore, i liked the .social part haha.
https://universeodon.com
@Thunderdonk4444 https://infosec.exchange/ as evident from me replying through it.
newsie and mstdn.games
I have an account on mastodon.online
I'm on urusai.social right now to talk about anime / manga / general tech. Probably gonna end up creating an additional account on a more general instance to talk about things on a whim too
I’m on Mastodon.social because I thought it was as good as any other, but after reading comments here I’m considering switching to mastodon.world
I'm on Masto.ai and Dads.cool.
I'm on sciences.social, because I am a social scientist. There's a number for different sciences that are good for keeping up with your field. I don't know about other occupations but I assume they're out there. Also, as with all things federated, the server doesn't matter too much once you get rolling.
oldbytes.space which is good if you love retrocomputing, otherwise you'll be a bit lost on the local feed.
mastodon.world, clearly the best!
easymode.im
Calckey is a much nicer experience than mastodon; https://calckey.org/
Weird, calckey doesn't work in my browser, Librewolf. I guess calckey does some fingerprinting or what?
Librewolf is a custom version of Firefox, focused on privacy, security, and freedom.
Do you spin-up a librewolf ad every time a convo that you can mention your browser comes up?
Yes, it makes sense. So if you submit a bug report about something, you have to spin-up which software, OS, etc. you use as well. It is logic.
Seems reasonable. After all, I mention I use Linux whenever I get the chance and how I like its privacy, UI customization, and easy updates much more than Windows
Literally techbro veganism.
Hm, works in normal firefox with various privacy settings on
Yes, it works in Firefox. But Librewolf is stricter when it comes to privacy.
Take a look at https://privacytests.org/
Plasma Trap, KitsuClub (and KitsuGay for lewd stuff), Calckey.social, stop.voring.me and Lethal Lava Land are great instances.
