A bountiful harvest. I can see another one coming along in the background too.
My snow peas have started to die off already, although there are a couple of later planted ones that just started flowering and are looking good. Hopefully they will keep producing long enough to get me through until the beans start producing.
I'm still planting tomatoes, and have quite a few backup seedlings coming along to replace any that die in the garden. I've got quite a few cherry tomatoes of various colours too, which tend to be a bit hardier. I have 10 different varieties of tomato all up, across four different locations in the garden, so if I don't manage anything I will be very disappointed!
Been staving off the tiredness with chores for most of today, busy doing some laundry, unpacking, washing the coffee grinder, sticking up command hooks, and mopping the house like it's never been mopped before (the mops got two rounds of machine washing and line drying to get the dirt completely out).
I confess over winter I've neglected mopping for far too long because I was wearing slippers the whole time - and I HATE mopping with the microfibre finger thing tho it does a good job when you do squeeze it out properly. There's areas that might need a fifth go over tomorrow because they still feel oddly sticky. The house definitely feels energetically (?) lighter and better now though. I have one of those spray mops now to (hopefully) make regular mopping easier.
Reheated my defrosted dinner, g&t is made, kicking back for the evening and then catching up on sleep. Don't like overnight flights for this reason...
I'm not sure what happened to the showers and/or thunderstorm that were predicted this afternoon. It's blazing hot out there (in direct sun) with blue skies in all directions. I just put some shade cloth over my outdoor seedling area - there is a difference between "hardening off" and murder. I've also added some shade over the newly transplanted seedlings in the garden which are looking a bit traumatised. Hopefully we get some cloud cover soon or I might have to put some cover over the zucchinis too, they are already looking quite wilted. They will have more shade over summer once the beans grow, but at the moment are in full sun and this is a bit much for them.
There are a few white clouds over east and the wind has picked up a bit, but I don't think there will be much rain coming. I might have to put a bit of water on some of the seedlings this afternoon and hope for a bit of rain tomorrow.
I had an egg suicide while making breakfast. I showed Mr Woof, who was completely disinterested. My old dog would have cleaned it up for me in about 5 seconds. Instead I had to use paper towel. Mr Woof is great in his security alarm role, but not good as cleanup crew.
God damn it. Little dog did bomits on the carpet. Looks like old puke-o has an angry guts. Thank God for the wet & dry vac. Anyway it's a morning problem.
Ha! I just found out that the neonazi Lemmy instance shut down. In August. We were defederated from them, so I don't expect anyone will have missed them.
No holiday for us again this year. Missed out for a few years due to Covid, now it’s interest rates. Need a break ffs. My bad for buying a house at the wrong time and not having time to fix rates
This morning I broke my record for quickest commute to work ever, including during the harshest lockdowns. It's like the apocalypse happened overnight. 40 minutes door to door. Wish the roads were like this every day.
The ePassport queues at MEL appear to be fuxxored. Massive queues, almost no officials... poo.
Public holiday rates not enough to staff the joint adequately I suspect. (Cries internally in comparison to the efficiency of Changi.)
E: okay it looks like they're in the middle of upgrading the gates and it's progressing at q snails pace...
E2: I got in the one queue where the kiosk broke down lmao
E3: it's broken down twice now and there is a constant stream of confused passengers who don't know where they're supposed to go
E4: the machines keep breaking down lmao this is the worst entry experience I've ever had in Australia 🥲
E5: nearly two hours 1 hr 45 mins after landing I'm finally on a cab out of this blasted airport. Gee it's warm isn't it? But infinitely better than the sauna of Singapore. I'm starving, will have to break out the instant noods when I get back..
It's crazy how lucky I must have been when leaving and coming back through MEL for my last trip. Absolutely seamless experiences both ways for me, yet on other days things like this happen.
Honestly, most times I've had a seamless experience, leaving was a breeze. Today was just a coordinated clusterfuck. several swears were let loose when the smart Gates repeatedly broke down for no reason. I think a whole heap of people all arriving at once including a huge plane from Indonesia didn't help. They do make you declare if you've been in Indonesia in the last 7 days and sometimes computer does not like that and has a tanty.
Marketplace really came through this weekend, lots of things out the door with limited annoyances. I had a few portable heaters and dehumidifiers I don't need now the reverse cycle is in, and I wasn't sure how much interest there would be in heaters at this time of year, but everything is gone. Nice to have that space back again.
Delivery within 5km is available, at a cost of $80. Payment must be made in advance as this only covers the "yeet it out the window as I drive past" level of service. No returns or refunds available.
So, last over the line was Magical Lagoon (16), however Right You Are (8) failed to finish the race (horse was struggling in the heat, the jockey pulled him up and opted to not finish so the horse could get some attention, social media claims the horse is okay).
So depending on your sweep rules, it's one of those two.
I really need some kind of feature on my phone to disable online shopping when any alcohol has been consumed or I've had a hard day. I'm trying really hard not to spend $100+ on cheese right now. Abd I absolutely don't need it.
In lighter news, there was a monkey NFT party in Hong Kong. Attendees woke up in the middle of the night with extreme eye pain. It turns out the organiser used UVC light usually used to kill germs. It also turns out the same contractor used the same lights some years ago and caused the same problem.
Was wondering why the smell of ozone didn't tip some people off that there was an issue... but then realised these monkey NFT lovers probably don't use deodorant.
Marge was here and gone in about five minutes, though from the sound of it we now have blazing sun and rain simultaneously.
In other news, only really got up to feed the cats, answer the call of nature and grab a snacky snack, then crashed while curled up in bed with the cats reading and slept for another three hours. I might be tired...
No word on the interview so I'm hoping no news is good news. crosses fingers
Got a bolognaise sauce on and did a load of washing. Going to put on some chicken drumsticks (Elder Minipeeler's favourite) and slow cook them for lunch. Mr Peeler has gone to a mate's place for a catch-up.
I know other people like it but I find having a public holiday during the week is a pain in the arse from a food manufacturing point of view. I'll be on the pizza bases tomorrow when it should've been done today. The pasta I should be doing tomorrow will have to be done Thursday.. the whole rest of the week will be rushing to get things done.
Gosh my TR expires late 2025 and I have to get started on the PR process. Not sure where to start, and every fkn agent wants like $300 for a 30 mins consult. sigh
[Unfortunately my work won't sponsor my visa, i'll have to either find my own way or find another company that will, but at this stage i really don't want to leave my company as it's a really good one]
My MIL runs a household sweep every year as a bit of fun for herself really, keeps her amused. So there she was, watching channel 7 and waiting for the cup to come on.. didn't twig from watching races at Randwick and eagle farm that it wasn't coming on. I had to break it to her that they'd already ran the race and it was all over! We put it on another channel and they were just doing a replay so she got to see it at least, and we pretended it was the real race. She was a bit miffed though and has gone to bed!
Went for a drive down the coast from Port Melbourne down to Mordialloc. First time opening my sunroof, it was quite pleasant! I haven't had a car with a sunroof for over 20 years. They're definitely higher quality now than they used to be!
I think we need to increase taxes permanently, and start spending more money on essential services again. But we need to tax in a fairer way, aiming to reduce inequality. I'd be looking at captital gains tax and the huge discounts we give. And unpopular as it may be I think we should tax gains on residential homes. Which would not actually be as much as people would fear - once you take out a deduction for interest payments, stamp duty, rates and all the other costs most people would not actually have that much gain, but people who receive windfalls from being in the right spot would contribute some of that back to society.
Yay I finally got to see some lightning! I thought everyone else got all the fun and I missed out. No rain here though. I think we may have gotten half a sprinkle earlier.
Edit: I've found a pattern with my loud downstairs neighbour. She consistently fires up whenever there's some kind of weather event and as someone who also digs weather events, I can respect that. Been at it for almost an hour now off and on.
When I was a kid and used to have sleepovers with friends one our favourite things were staying up late and watching lightning when it happened as we told stories all night. E
For some reason lightning was super cool and we had the best time when the sky was flashing and the thundering booming every now and again.
Excuse my dumb ass but I'm filling a hole in the door and this is my filling so far. Do I leave it to dry now for a few hours and come back to paint it? Do I need to fill more putty in there?
Yo that’s fantastic. If that filler is still wet , take all that excess off around the hole. It will be a pain in the arse to sand when it’s dry and by the looks of it, you’ll need a top coat of filler anyway.
Got some of it but there's still a small layer on the side, hopefully not an issue to sand it out. By a top coat of filler, do you mean another layer of putty on top of this one, wait till dry, sand again and then paint?
You gotta sand that before painting. That's rough as at the moment. It might take letting it harden, sanding, re-fill, sand again, then paint. You could take the pins out of the hinges if you had somewhere else to paint the door.
I did sand it before filing in the putty, but if it still feels rough then I'll re-fill and paint again. Don't have more space to pain the door elsewhere unfortunately so this will have to do I guess.
It is the Day of the Circling Horses, so I need to celebrate. I will have a glass of sparkling white, a seafood platter, and a glass of sparkling white please.
If there's one thing Paul McGann brings to anything he's in it's terrible kissing. Please for the love of everyone, especially the person on the recieving end, stop giving that man romantic partners/interests.
Honestly, I'm less grossed out by my 80yr old Grandparents having one of their weird denture filled snogs.
Not bad outside in the shade, but the sun is a bit burnyburneyburnie fierce.
I got some good gardening work done. I moved some perrenial leeks, put together some bamboo supports and planted some climbing beans. I've also pulled up a couple of rows of bricks next to the house and added some compost mix for a narrow garden bed. I planted some corriander seeds in the prime position under the air conditioning water pipe. The position gets some direct sun but not all day and not in the afternoon. Hopefully it is a suitable spot and they won't just bolt to seed like every other time I have planted corriander. I guess if they do I try again in another spot.
I'm just soaking up every bit of this weather, so much delightful sun and warmth without any of that blasted humidity!
Most of my plants are doing well thanks to a friend's periodic watering, although my floors were dirty because she wore her shoes indoors :c small price to pay for keeping my plants going this long. Some things are a bit crispy but not excessively so. I'll need to do some tidying up later thsi week. It's also time for me to heavily prune the big curry leaf plant again as all the leaves are at the ends and it's looking leggy. At least they're mature enough to use - I might keep the harvest in the freezer. Or make a nice healthy herbal rice porridge...
Good luck with your coriander seeds. My entire balcony is no longer suited to the picky bastards until April next year probably.
I'm glad your plants are doing well. I don't think anywhere is particularly suited to coriander over our blazing hot summers. I'm hoping this patch will give me decent growth over spring/early summer as it is quite cool & damp. I'm not sure it will get enough sun over winter there though, I may need a second winter patch.
T-10 days to my move. Time to start packing and get rid of some things. I have collected a lot of useless things over the year and I want to get rid before I move.
Ok I trashed Tubi but holy shit I take it back. It's got American Mary and Ginger Snaps may be coming? Ginger Snaps is a bit of a comfort movie for me and I was genuinely afraid that it was gone from the net.
I thought we all got to piggyback off your steps? That is so many steps. Is there an alternative I can do that is more along the lines of sitting on the couch?
Counting that high without losing track is going to be the hard part. I'm unlikely to get past 20 without being distracted, losing my place and having to start again.
Was wandering around the outdoors shop because the housemate needed a new pack for our upcoming camping/hiking trip, and as we wander by the shoe aisle it comes to light they no longer have proper hiking shoes...
We are basically like siblings after years of house sharing and in that moment I was ready to deck them like one. A whole trip could have been ruined because they were just going to macgyver an old pair of mine (they wear custom orthopaedic inserts for scoliosis).
BE WITNESS TO MY TWO SNAP PEAS:
I think they're snap peas can't actually remember which ones they are.
A bountiful harvest. I can see another one coming along in the background too.
My snow peas have started to die off already, although there are a couple of later planted ones that just started flowering and are looking good. Hopefully they will keep producing long enough to get me through until the beans start producing.
Mine are dying too, and the second run never came up. Zero tomatoes also. F this weird weather.
I might try again. I’ve seed from one that totally engulfed the hills hoist before, but also wanting to move, so planting is 🤷🏻♀️
Most of my cherry tomato seedlings are just taken from a supermarket mixed punnet. They all sprouted well.
Been staving off the tiredness with chores for most of today, busy doing some laundry, unpacking, washing the coffee grinder, sticking up command hooks, and mopping the house like it's never been mopped before (the mops got two rounds of machine washing and line drying to get the dirt completely out).

Reheated my defrosted dinner, g&t is made, kicking back for the evening and then catching up on sleep. Don't like overnight flights for this reason...
I've only been using warm water - I think the stickiness is from dirt or dust that's gotten smooshed around everywhere...
I'm not sure what happened to the showers and/or thunderstorm that were predicted this afternoon. It's blazing hot out there (in direct sun) with blue skies in all directions. Got all the mowing done in a hurry thinking there would be rain and storms…. Sigh. The snipping can wait for another day. I’m wrecked.
I’m seeing clouds, NW burbs. They don’t look very ominous though.
There are a few white clouds over east and the wind has picked up a bit, but I don't think there will be much rain coming. I might have to put a bit of water on some of the seedlings this afternoon and hope for a bit of rain tomorrow.
Job interview tomorrow! I really want a new role asap. Hopefully before my birthday in 2 weeks! 🤞🏾

I feel like I missed out on something. There was a Neo-Nazi instance? Not surprising I guess, but whoa.
They were blatantly racist, abusive and obnoxious. Then they were surprised that the rest of the Fediverse disconnected from them.
Something something free speech mah rights.
I love it when people scream free speech. Like yeah buddy, you do have free speech. But I also have free speech to tell you you're being a cunt!
Did they raise the rates again?
I hope not as it could cause a recession this time around.
RBA increased the cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.35% – the highest it’s been in 12 years.
ee up we go.
We are still a few basis points below long term average :) and that sucks but at the time it's mean reversion.
I'm not fun at parties.
No holiday for us again this year. Missed out for a few years due to Covid, now it’s interest rates. Need a break ffs. My bad for buying a house at the wrong time and not having time to fix rates

Sausage and Egg McMuff using spicy pork sausage shaped into patty.
Yummo. I'm glad you picked that cheese because it does make a difference. I had run out of them.
It was astonishingly good.!
Now you can upgrade to the filet-o-fish
Hmm maybe on Good Friday

plants , plant food and solar batteries have been obtained. As per CEO's advice I made sure to buy food for vegetable plants. 👍😊

Yea coming back from Indo a few months ago they (at MEL) really hounded everyone if they'd been on a farm. FMD I think was the thing.
Welcome back!
And somehow for us, despite declaring we've been to farmland, we've brought meds and all, we got directed straight to the exit.
welcome back 😊
i walked 7885 steps in this glare
Pfft gotta pump those numbers up Bacon. I have walked a massive 138 steps 😎😎😎
(I'm still in bed 🤪)
Good work shuffling back and forth between the toilet and your bed
Hee only got up to feed the cats and grab a snacky snack, then crashed for another few hours myself.
you must not rest until you hit 8888, only then will the rain gods be appeased
::: spoiler Still nothing. Now what? :::
Maybe 8888 was to stop the rain. Try for 9999?
::: spoiler Like this? It’s not working. I want water. Not just breeze and shade. :::
Hmm, divine intervention just doesn't seem to be working today. Maybe the gods have the day off too?
OK, I'm going to try extreme measures. I'll water the garden. If that doesn't work, someone needs to wash their car.
My car does need washing. I'm hoping I could ask the gods to do that tomorrow. Either way I just showered and I will not sweat anymore today.
Tonight for dinner I am cooking truffle fettuccini in a creamy garlic chicken and mushroom sauce with some broccolini as a side
two slices of beef, one boiled egg, one indomie, and grapes
the BOM has lost sight of proper forecasting
As a human barometer (air pressure changes are a migraine trigger for me, storms are not fun) I can say we're good for now.
I don’t have the iron band around my brow yet either
i am waiting for my ears to pop and it’s not yet
Mine popped an hour or two ago but I’m not sure if that was due to head congestion that I already had.
Riverlands and inland NSW is getting walloped, and it's heading this way. Check out Windy.com
looks like the storms have gone north
I can only imagine the amount of hairspray used on the fillies this year.

Hi, is this still available? Do you deliver?
Delivery within 5km is available, at a cost of $80. Payment must be made in advance as this only covers the "yeet it out the window as I drive past" level of service. No returns or refunds available.
Can I get a discount if I pick it up?
I am unable to discount free items. If you require a discount I will need to charge you for the item first.
In regards to the items that do have a cost, I would agree to pretty much anything if you come and take the blasted things away ASAP 🤣
Having a nap - thunder - barking little dog

Amazing
The Spear Lily flowers are starting to open. Was hoping to get a high stalk but that didn't happen.

I'm still waiting for the real placing that matters. Who came last?

In “lighter” news🫠lol.
Seriously tho. That happened to my eyes once. That pain is no joke. Went to emergency.
With medical care your future is bright.
I'm sure it was an illuminating experience.
I'm sure they will beam at each other next time when they reminisce about it.
I see. Very interesting.
An eye-opening piece of information.
Definitely at the lower end of the spectrum.
Not very bright are they
Was wondering why the smell of ozone didn't tip some people off that there was an issue... but then realised these monkey NFT lovers probably don't use deodorant.
They never viewed it as an essential part of daily life.

Marge has just reappeared and those clouds look nasty as well. Thunder seems to have gone though...

Do you think that Potato Gems were leftover scraps of hash browns repurposed?
According to this taste test article, the Gems actually came out superior to actual hash browns
See I knew they were baby hash browns.

gotta start bright and early
I'm sure it was an illumi.... no, no I won't do this again 😁
Maybe I should watch an Illumination movie to celebrate
Of course. On the authority of Spider Robinson, the week goes Sunday, Monday, Punday ... Our Bacon is vibing with this particular calendar.

We only got light showers til we took the dog out for a walk after dinner. Then it rained so hard that water ran down us and pooled in our shoes.
Is she solo or entertaining?
Absolutely no idea but my hunch is entertaining with that performance
so tired, I'm going to bed. Good night everyone 😘
Nighty night
Am now in receipt of one Partner singing songs about being a sausage who brings the buns. Shower & berocca time!
Eh, he frequently goes on about sausages and chicken nuggets while asleep. I was quite fond of the demand to ‘get the penguins out of his sandwiches’

I'd leave it to dry (still looks damp) and give it a bit of a sanddpaper back before you paint.
That's the plan! Thanks oztrin!
My neighbour thinks 9am on a public holiday is the perfect time to start up their whipper snipper and lawn mower.
9am is the legal time according to EPA rules for a public holiday. Maybe they were rushing to get it done before the bad weather was supposed to hit

Not bad outside in the shade, but the sun is a bit
burnyburneyburniefierce.I got some good gardening work done.
It's on real debrid in 1080p if that helps at all
Thanks, I try to stay away from anything legally grey though as I don't think I can correctly do the dance
Well it's all happened now. Thunder, lightning and rain.
Gosh. I've had about 14 drops of rain here.
Have you walked the assigned 9999 steps ?
I thought we all got to piggyback off your steps? That is so many steps. Is there an alternative I can do that is more along the lines of sitting on the couch?
You got the handful of raindrops. Raise your knees 9999 times but that will be more difficult than just walking.
Counting that high without losing track is going to be the hard part. I'm unlikely to get past 20 without being distracted, losing my place and having to start again.
you just have to do that 500 times
Was wandering around the outdoors shop because the housemate needed a new pack for our upcoming camping/hiking trip, and as we wander by the shoe aisle it comes to light they no longer have proper hiking shoes...
We are basically like siblings after years of house sharing and in that moment I was ready to deck them like one. A whole trip could have been ruined because they were just going to macgyver an old pair of mine (they wear custom orthopaedic inserts for scoliosis).
