What am I doing wrong?!
I've been trying for like 20 minutes. The rest of the chapter has only taken me 10.
Edit: Just fucking beat it after an hour. I still have absolutely no fucking clue what I was doing wrong. And in case it wasn't absolutely obvious: I was trying to beat the level without dashing.

I don't think a jump like you're doing is enough to make that gap. You'll need a little more momentum, which you can get by jumping from the left side of the platform instead of the right.
This video (6:30 in) shows you the way I find most consistent to do it. iirc it's way easier with 2 jump buttons (one button for each jump, and don't let go of the first button until after you get the jump).
The method I was using actually did work in the end. Probably died something like 500 times in that room alone (and I only died 600 times total getting the winged golden strawberry)

Ah yes, use my dash when I am obviously trying to beat the level WITHOUT DASHING.
