Oh God I try super hard not to do this at work with phrases like "it's my understanding that" and "it appears that". It's such a cop out on something that I'm supposed to be authoritative about. It's really tempting though.

The trick is to give two working options and let them choose. If it succeeds you helped them, if it fails they picked the wrong one.

Honestly though, this is a good addendum to any advice given or received, because not everything works the same for everyone at all times.
