Bi-Quarterly(?) Questions Thread [Edition #1] - The Old to the New Edition
I copied the rules from the original subreddit so why not this. At first the title was supposed to be "Bi-Weekly(?)" because I'm not sure if I would make new threads on time and I have no way of knowing if that would be too frequent, but then I saw that last one on /r/vitahacks was posted 6 months ago and SKGleba in the comments said it's Bi-Quarterly, so why not lol Anyway, onwards with the slightly modified copypaste:

Prevent your Vita from Updating:
NOTE: PSVita firmware updates are not a typical modern-day concern, since downgrading firmware is available and simple to execute. Known exploits continue to work on most recent firmware (3.74). Preventing update is still a good practice in general.
-To disable the download of automatic firmware updates: Settings --> System --> Auto-Start Settings --> Uncheck "Download automatic update files"
-Setup your network with Henkaku DNS settings for an additional layer of update prevention. See here.
-If your console has downloaded the 3.73 update file, simply deleting the notification in LiveArea should remove the file from your system. Otherwise, firmware update files can be found in ud0:PSP2UPDATE/*
-Remember, unless you are running your vita in Demo mode, your console will not spontaneously install/update firmware software. There are legal reasons for this. Installation of any new software on your device requires your consent, (EULA).

I let my friend borrow my vita years ago, I wonder if he still has it. It's still my favorite handheld untill there's a steam deck like device that's vita size.
Are there big new releases? Like homebrew games or ports that came to the vita in the past 3 years
3 years, huh. well, that's quite a bit. a lot happened. my best advice would be to go to VitaDB and look around, but from what I can think of: hacking got a lot easier, now there is an official VitaDB store app, people can port Ren'Py visual novels now, people can port Godot 3.5 games now I think, people can actually port Android games but it's really hard as far as I know, Android GTA: SA got ported with visual enhancements, the Sonic CD, Sonic Mania and Space Cadet Pinball decompilation, Dreamcast emulation (not the best), Nintendo 64 emulation (pretty good) and also YoYoLoader - app that lets you play Android games made in GameMaker Studio 1/2 and even PC if you're in luck
Godot 3.5 games can be built for vita, noice. I'll give VitaDB a look, thanks
Uhh.. I guess this is the thread for me then, I have a couple questions about hacking Vitas.
So, I am getting a used Vita (today-ish, sometime this week anyway), and was planning on hacking it so I've been reading up. Turns out, it already has Hen on it! Going to mod the 3g port to an SD too when I can get the board, but for now that'll have to wait.
Is there a way to update Hen from inside Hen, like how regular firmware updates work on things? Or do I have to basically reinstall through the vita browser, and if so, do I have to reset it back to stock before I reinstall?
It is the persistent hack not one you have to run on boot, so that's good.
I had physical access to the Vita for a short time and loaded a few games off the sd2vita, they did load and in the limited bit I was able to play around they did run, BUT they took forever to start up (about 5-10 minutes of splash screen), sometimes throwing errors with codes I couldn't look up at the time. Is this kinda just normal behavior for Hen, being a hack and all, or is something wrong with that install and I need to reinstall anyway?
I found plenty of guides to install so I should be fine there if I do need to reinstall, though the more the merrier if you have one you want to share! Also any tips or guides on how exactly to use Hen post-install would be welcome too, I'll be winging it beyond what this thread already taught me in the post body! If it matters I plan to mostly play Vita, PSP (with adrenaline), and maybe ps1 games, maybe Sega if I can get Vector Man on there, and some of the homebrew ports like Fallout 1 and Postal lol.
E: Ok, got the Vita, installed a few games, one fails to boot, will reinstall it and pray later, played a dearly missed psp game for a sec, and now I'm just trying to set it up, delete old data and games I don't need, etc. Seems to be working fine for now, though slow load times abound. Still need to know about updating henkaku, and also want to transfer files to a 512gb instead of the 128 that's inside.
Can I just transfer the files using any PC and then it'll boot correctly from the new drive? Is it that easy? I'm working on the transferring, all that is left is apps and psp folders, kinda scared to try it out though. Short of answers here I will I suppose and can always reinstall.
Also RE: Account switching. There is an account on the system (but I think "logged off?" Maybe? Hard to tell, no internet...well so I guess that means logged off..). I would like to get it on "my" account (that doesn't exist, I need to make one.) How do I do that? I don't think I can from inside henkaku, can I? I know about the accountswitcher.vpk, but like, can that create a new PSN or what do I have to do? And do all the games and apps like adrenaline disappear if I switch using the easy account switcher vpk?
E for nobody: Ok so the web browser and both installed homebrew browsers still don't work, but I've downloaded advanced acct switcher and better homebrew browser vpks on my phone, will transfer and install today. No clue why the browser can't load anything except google's homepage, maybe I'll uninstall and reinstall itls-enso? Who knows, clearly nobody here, because I'm the only one screaming into the void lol. Oh well, I'll just leave this log here for any future travelers that may stumble upon it.
Captain's Log, stardate "right now": Ok so I got the better homebrew browser running after (it turns out re-)installing, vita homebrew browser is dead server side, and the www browser now runs kinda after reinstalling itls-enso. Working on the PSN acct, kept throwing errors talking about some connection issues either with the server or my internet, I'm gonna try and create the acct on another device and log in, since "create" was failing. So far it seems the answer is "if anything at all gives you any trouble just reinstall the app" and fine, can do.
I'm wondering if maybe the PSN issue is DNS related, it's probably on the one used to install henkaku... hmm...
Captains log, stardate right now: Ok, so Simple Account Switcher (linked above) is deprecated, now use Advanced Account Switcher, and when you do, for SOME FUCKING REASON, to log into the Vita after it deletes the old account you have to go to your PSN acct on a web browser, find in account settings this link that hopefully directs you to "log in" and then "generate password".. You CANNOT use the password for your PSN account, because fuck you that's why, and nobody will tell you that, it'll just either server error or "Wrong creds" you until you get pissed enough to search "how to sign in PS vita." Other than that, it works! Wouldn't "create account" though, had to create on my phone and then log in with that infernal generated "device password" ffs.
Guess that's all my problems solved, unless I forgot one, and not including "figuring out how to install Fallout 1&2." I'll get to it jfc I'm done for now. Still have to figure out switching mem cards too, but later.
