It's some kind of bug. Half my subscriptions show that. I randomly unsub/resub now and then and sometimes it goes through. Either way it still works and the content shows up on my feed.
It must be a bug. For me, I didn't see the subscribe button at all yesterday, just a plaintext "Subscribe" that I couldn't click. When visiting one of the posts, the button finally appeared today.

It's a bug. If it says "pending", you've been subscribed.
I saw that for many (all?) channels but just waited and eventually the subscription appeared

Yes, this is a bug. This has already been reported (https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1581) and fixed (https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/pull/1661). I assume that after the release of Lemmy 0.18.1 everything will work again as it should.
I'm able to subscribe but I'm on lemmy.ml. Maybe it's a lemmy.world problem?

Yeah had the issue on world. Waited a couple days and unsub/resub and it went in.
Sure it'll get worse before it gets better with all the new friends incoming
