I remember when I was about 10 years old, my mum gave me one of her scratchies and I won $20 bucks! I felt like a millionaire. I remember spending my winnings on a Monsters in my Pocket collectors set which had all the monsters in it. One of the best days of my life.
I am still trying to log in on my phone (jerboa app and chrome mobile browser), but I am not getting a reset password link. I also cannot reset my password on PC (where I am typing this from) without remembering my old password... which wouldn't be necessary if I could remember my old password haha. I will keep trying, but if I am unable to reset my password so I can log in on my phone, I may set up a new, even more starchy, account.
Anyway, I am currently working from home, smashed out a busy day today, never once looked at my phone until after work, when I saw I was summoned by my good friend PeelerSheila :D <3
I will be available tonight on my PC :) I may need to work tomorrow, to help a colleague so I won't be able to reply tomorrow (I need my monitors for work lol), but I am here now my fellow DTers, my favourite people. I truly love you all
Edit: sorry if my tone is off, im kinda still in work mode bleeeeheheeheheheheehe lol
This is awesome! I was busy making chicken nuggets from scratch and didn't see this msg, great to have you back mate! Sounds like the job's going well.
His Lordship and I have decided to have an absolutely over the top compliment day. Made a cuppa? Oh what rapturous divine beverage crosses my lips you truly are a credit to teamakers and all their arts! You have fed those felines with the grace and deftness of Apollo himself!
I always think of a beer fridge as being the old fridge that was still running when you upgraded, so it got moved to the garage and used for beer. Whereas a bar fridge is a tiny little fridge you buy with the intention of storing beer in, then discover the shelves are all the wrong heights to store most drink bottles and you can't fit enough in to manage even a small party, so you end up using the sink full of ice anyway. Although it was surprisingly acceptable as the only refrigeration I had when I first moved out of home.
Anyone else here given blood and not been able to fill the bag? I gave blood and followed the normal procedures (like drinking all of the water, having snacks beforehand etc.,) and yet I couldn’t completely fill the bag. It got close but the flow pretty much dwindled down to drops. Normally my body freely gives blood but this time around it was like “nah bruv, that’s as much as I’m willing to part with”.
I keep meaning to go & give blood, but I’m a bit phobic about needles, so it can be hard for them to get blood out (stress seems to equal reduced flow)
Maybe. I think from memory they've used the same vein for the last few appointments and I'm wondering whether that's part of it too. But I have also been pretty stressed/burnt out so that could be it as well.
My wife is the same about being phobic towards needles. She'd love to give blood but needles are just something she can't handle. Sounds like though you've been able to at least get to a point where you've donated before, albeit with a bit of trouble?
I did try once, but got faint and they had to stop. I really should have another go. Nurses have commented about the stress/flow thing during blood tests before, and it does make sense - your body would be preserving its resources.
If the needle stick pain bothers your wife, I’ve found Emla cream handy to numb the spot. Having one less thing to stress over makes it a little easier for me, at least.
Being the stats nut, I try to beat my "personal best" time on filling the bag. Just like my runs though, present-day me can't compete with 30-years-ago me. In my prime, I could fill that bag in just over 4 minutes. These days, I'm happy if its under 5 minutes.
Maybe it’s just this bleary Friday but feeling in a definite work rut of late. So I apologise for probably the deepest/longest post I’ve ever made online.
I’ve been in my (IT/AV/technical) industry 25 years, and at my current job almost 10, but due to some SERIOUS imposter syndrome am still pretty much doing the same work now that I was doing back in the day.
Around 15-20 years ago I was doing much more technically complex work than I am now and climbed to some higher leadership levels, but HATAED managing people so quit that job and dropped right back to the coal face where I’ve been ever since, with pretty much zero progression.
My boss’ boss - we were both at the same level when I first started. My manager, I trained them when they joined as a junior, helped them rise up to a role at my level, and then eventually supported them to go higher and they’re now my boss.
I’ve been approached by other groups over the years to join/help out/move up, but I’ve pushed back every time because I can’t help but think “I can’t do that”, “they THINK I know more than I actually do”, “if they find out I’m actually crap I’ll be unemployed with a family to support”, "I've hit the limit of what I'm capable of".
GAH. I wish I could just appreciate what I’ve got, but I come to work completely on autopilot, can’t remember the last time I actually had to use my brain for anything, and seem to just be the guy everyone turns to for help/advice, train new staff and to help further their own careers. Imposter syndrome blows. Wish I had the kind of personality that could fake it till I make it.
There's a thing called The Peter Principle - where you rise in the organisation until you reach your level of incompetence. I have to congratulate you on avoiding this horrible fate. Horrible both for yourself and others. I'm not being ironic here - if more people had a realistic idea of their own competencies then the world would DEFINITELY be a better place.
So props to you for being honest with yourself about what you can AND are willing to do. It's not strictly speaking imposter syndrome I think, unless you really want to play a competitive game of I'm better than you are, nyer nyer nyer. There is much to like about a regular and adequate for purpose pay packet.
Check out Dilbert syndrome online too, where incompetents are promoted to a level where they cannot impede production ....
It’s perfectly fine to not want to ‘move up’ to management. I do what I do because the hands on stuff is interesting. Why would I replace that with management bullshit for a smidge more money and no fun?!?! Yes, we end up with on paper senior people very much our junior. My issues about that are person specific not directly age based.
I don’t know anything about the industry but that actually seems like an important role and good job security. Seconding the point about not getting promoted into a position that’s a poor fit/stresses you out. If you’re financially secure and not hating it a job can just be a job.
But if it’s getting too stagnant you could ask for a side project or (lower pressure) take one up yourself? Do you have enough comfort with your boss that you can bring this up?
Update: just DM'd and they're fine! Waiting for a reset link for their account which Lemmy thus far hasn't sent. The spud thinks they might have to set up a new account.
I feel like this yo-yo weather is making all my houseplants sad. Don't worry guys, I feel just as wilty and confused as you do right now! On the plus side I think the humidity is helping some of them...
I haven't made miso soup in so long that the last remaining bit I have has dried up and gone flaky. I've put it in the hot stock to slowly dissolve anyway. Let's hope it's still good for my gut.
Long time since I've had Japanese. Made asparagus goma-ae (sesame dressing - hand ground the seeds but i think I added too much soy sauce), rice is cooking, miso soup will be plain and I will just have some TINNED FISH (the last I have atm) as a side. Maybe soak some shiitake overnight for a side protein tomorrow.
Quite the emergency, but it's rather cold out ... and I'll be gone for three weeks in a few days... but then again I don't want to be caught without supplies when I get back...
I have managed to wrangle my week such that I have NO meetings today, all deadlines are met/things are on track, and all I need to do is sit down and read a whole stack of papers (academic articles, not student papers). I'm sure this sounds boring AF to many of you, but it sounds like my perfect Friday!
i just woke up from a nap, but i genuinely have no memory of drifting off to sleep. i was lying down, tired but awake, next thing i know it's an hour later and i'm waking up with a start.
Ugh, COVID is running rampant with PAX (I mean there is PAX pox but now with COVID...). I just hope I don't get it for the 2nd time, I'm already dealing with possible long covid stuff from last year (though I will say, that I took the risks so I only have myself to blame it just sucks).
Rewatching Xena! The power, the cheese, the how bothered can we be about hiding the fact we're filming in NZ (Lucy Lawless' accent included).
Also time to state my favourite fact that Lucy Lawless got the powers that be to hide sneakers and kneepads in her costume. Also also less fun fact more opinion, Renee O'connor getting absolutely yoked as the seasons progressed, and doing her own stunts, legend!
I love that it constantly makes fun of itself. As for Renee O'connor, I read somewhere that what happened was that they had her dressed all demurely in season 1 until production staff realised she was actually ripped. then, as an in joke, as the seasons went by they made her costume smaller and smaller/more and more revealing.
Also, I met Lucy Lawless once (in the context of an arts industry function) and she was lovely.
Gabrielle's incredible shrinking green bra, as it was known back in the day.
(And they always knew Renee was ripped. She's a kickboxer. But the character of gabrielle was supposed to be a demure soft sweet village girl, so they hid it as much as possible)
Anyone starting to get 'ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube' popups on the site on desktop? It went away when I pressed the X to close the popup but I foresee more shittiness (and a cat and mouse game with ad blocker devs).
I am a dumdum… ages ago I got Firefox on my phone and tried to sort this out but adblockers don’t seem to work or be allowed on iPhone. I know that there are extensions for Safari but would those be detected and get my access blocked?
I’ve been trying to remember to use Brave for YouTube but I am definitely getting targeted ads from general browsing
:( Thankfully I mostly forget to. Someone on the other place said that it doesn’t work anymore anyway. Not sure if that’s with adblockers or if the inbuilt stuff is getting detected.
There are Safari extensions but those would probably get detected.
I hate this. I’d accept a reasonable amount of ads but they’ve been dialed up for pester power, ads enlarged for misclicks, and when that hasn’t been lucrative enough it’s now strongarm tactics.
The internet is going to shit and avoiding/mitigating that is increasingly requiring tech skills I struggle to keep up with
Aaaaand the dreaded merge feature on iOS Safari has disappeared my 300 odd tabs. Coincidentally, yesterday I was chatting about how when past you does something that future you pats yourself on the back for. Well, I found that I had somehow bookmarked a lot of the same tabs almost 12 months ago.
Go past me! The other tabs… Oh well. I’m awful at having too many open and it’s bit me the arse more than once.
Aim for today is to leave the dwelling and venture out into this uninviting weather.
Q: What dishwashing liquid does everyone use? I’m pretty sure I’ve been a Morning Fresh faithful forever, but lately I’ve just found that no matter how soapy, I’m still find grease on some cookware.
Edit: Oops I just checked. Looks like Palmolive. Maybe I do have to return to MF.
You can almost always get it on sale. If it's not currently it'll be soon enough. I thought I was being smart and buying a big jug of it for refills. The big jug was more expensive than the regular sale prices.
we get the giant dawn thingies from USA foods ('cos we also use it in homemade cleaning supplies) and use a scrub daddy dispenser 'cos His Lordship has portion issues. Lasts us forever
Morning fresh. And I buy the different smells, because variety and dishwashing is drudgery. The different morning fresh varieties all seem to work the same. I tried Palmolive once and thought it was rubbish. Also didn’t like the smell.
How much does lease transfer typically cost? The place i'm moving to is charging $290 (which I will split with the outgoing tenant) but fuck me if that isn't exxy
I'm so burned out with my masters degree at the moment. late on everything and the quality of all my work is awful. feels like I will have to write to my professors apologising for doing such a terrible job 🫠
I shouldn't have eaten so much dark chocolate coated liquorice. Or icecream and rhubarb and apple fruit mince pies. Or home made chicken nuggets. Every year from around my birthday to Christmas I turn into a piggy. It's like a 3 month long pigout session. All the stuff I've denied myself all year is suddenly essential eating. I'm going to undo all my good work if I don't pull up 😳
When I used to drive home at 4am I reckon the drug testing was quietly a vehicle inspection station too. There'd be so many fast n the furious cars lined up along the side of the freeway.
Torn between that feeling of complete apathy to the work I do, and a burning passion to protect the area of knowledge and ability that I've carved out for myself.
Like, on the on hand: couldn't give melted diarrhoea in a plastic cup, as much as the work gives me the bum squirts due to stress.
But on the other hand: I will ball my fist around a roll of dollar coins and smack a bish who steps on my plot.
Hard, hard relate! But it makes it easier to step away and relinquish the power work has over your psyche when you give up your turf and let it be other peoples' problems...
Definitely - we have some time off coming up and it cannot come sooner, if nothing else other than to lock the door on that part of my mind, since I know this feeling only hits during work hours (thanks to a healthy dose of a decent work life balance that I've fought hard for). Plus, closing the laptop lid tonight will feel very sweet knowing the weekend is upon us.
That's awesome with the time off - hopefully an opportunity to work out what a more long term arrangement would be like for you, it doesn't sound sustainable.
I'm starting to find that these draining feelings of wanting unreasonable control over work domains stem from a sense of bring unfulfilled, either with challenge and/or purpose...
stem from a sense of bring unfulfilled, either with challenge and/or purpose
Ooooof. this hits hard! I'm definitely in this category. I'm also aware though that it would take a LOT for me to feel fulfilled in my line of work. Both this holiday and the coming Christmas period is going to be spent having some very hard conversations with myself about what I do next. That said, it would be nice if my work supported me in some way/shape/form in training and evolving my professional output in the way I want it to but that won't happen.
In your world though what kind of fulfilment do you think would result in overcoming this feeling?
Well... I've almost quit my job, I've stayed on for a bit on a casual basis to try and get a small project done (this is proving impossible as it's entirely based on self motivation and I honestly wish I'd gone for the clean break). Honestly I don't know what is next but I know for a fact I simply can't get what I need at my current place with the current team.
I've been looking up storage unit costs recently... Dump everything there and travel for a while maybe. Volunteer and get to meet people again without my work identity/stress hanging over my head. Do some ad hoc work as it comes up. I've made a few contacts who might be able to throw some freelancing work my way - especially once my head clears and I actually remember what I love.
I’ve been looking up storage unit costs recently… Dump everything there and travel for a while maybe. Volunteer and get to meet people again without my work identity/stress hanging over my head.
That sounds like a great idea! Have you decided where you want to go?
Not yet! There's some Buddhist monasteries I've enjoyed staying/volunteering at and would be welcome at any time so that's an easy start. Landcare groups, wwoofing, I could maybe try for some seasonal work with fieldwork crews...
While not entirely healthy (in fact quite the opposite), I went through a phase about ... seven years ago now, where, even though I had a job, wife, house, etc., I wanted out. And it was either one way into the infinite beyond, or severing all ties and volunteering somewhere like South America and building houses for the poor or something. I sought help and obviously did neither - but yeah, there's something really satisfying about the idea of going living for other people in a voluntary perspective. Having just enough to put food in your stomach and have a roof over your head, but otherwise live with experience alone.
I'm rooting for you, I truly am. You're a great individual and deserve a lot in this life, and the fact that you're even willing to explore the idea of offering part of your life to help others speaks to that. So here's hoping that the path before you clears and you've able to work towards finding that love once again :)
<3 thank you for your thoughtful and insightful reply JW! It really helps me feel a bit less crazy and alone and scared about whatever comes next. Sometimes - maybe more often than not - what we need to help surf the waves of these difficult feelings isn't logical, rational, or based on deterministic left brain approaches, it's a bit of good old fashioned right brain reorganisation by feeling safe and secure and connected in one's body through interacting with others :)
My gamble paid off and my sleepbought vacuum bags and filters arrive today! Well, between that and the air purifier I guess it means I can thoroughly get rid of whatever dust accumulates while I'm away.
Lamb Roast for dinner tonight, perfect weather for it.
Things are looking a bit warmer next week, which will be nice. Just hoping the rain stays away tomorrow morning so I can walk to the voting point without getting soggy.
Took myself out to the city for a spot of shopping, ramen + beer for dins, then ice cream from Piccolina for dessert which was delicious. Down the laneway was a Pidapipo which had a nightclub line. I waited in no line for my ice cream. Is it that much better? I swear people see a line and think yep I need to go there.
When I bought my phone with a stylus it was mostly because I thought it would help with my gardening record keeping, and I'm pretty happy with how it's working out so far. In the past I've kept switching between computerised databases and handwriting, and nothing really worked out, but this allows me to do a combination of both. I've got a database for the plant varieties & a diary of what I'm doing, and I can use the phone to take photos, write notes directly on them, and then send them to the app as a new diary note I can add details to later.
The cops seem to regularly declare areas of potential trouble around Melbourne a stop-n-search area, eg, Moomba was one. How would this be different? What makes it a disgrace?
The protest organisers are seeking to work with police on their concerns. Nobody should be subject to arbitrary search and compulsory identification simply for exercising their right to freely assemble.
"Designated areas" in Victoria should also be criticised, but teenagers don't have a human right to carry a flick knife.
Oh I almost forgot.. I had a pork & wild emu sausage roll for lunch at the pub. It was ok but nowhere near as good as the one from the bakery the other week. I can say I've eaten the coat of arms now though.
Sometimes that's good enough! As long as it doesn't taste like your average run-of-the-mill sausage roll.. I imagine I'd feel a bit ripped off if it did.
Exercises completed, but I don't think anything will make up for the "goodbye" cakes I've had at work (cherished colleague's last day yesterday) and the apple & rhubarb fruit mince pies with vanilla icecream that I had last night. I thought I'd enjoy them while they last (Mr P eats the whole packet overnight so I've been buying them and missing out 😕) Gotta get 'em while the gettin's good!
The first time I heard of her, she was doing the black Saturday concert. She was actually in Sydney, but the MCG did a live feed of her set. Honestly, there wasn't that much difference between the Sydney acts and ours, we kinda watched our acts on the big screen anyway.
So, here's this young girl in a black T-shirt and jeans, singing one song in front of 100,000 or so people, and she did well. I was thinking about how wholesome it was that she wore something so normal to perform when she yanks it off and is suddenly wearing a tiny gold sequenced mini dress. I laughed!
Was absolutely pishing down in the city just before. I was watching the rain bouncing off the buildings near my office. Sun is out now so I'm taking the opportunity to flee home.
Weeeeeekeeeeennnnnnnd
Debating whether to go on a weekend/overnight adventure or stay home.
Zoidberg and Claude / August will now be living as virtual machines. I have nabbled an old r210 for this. But what to call the enclosure.......TAKING ALL BETS will be running the aforementioned (VPN/DL machine and home automation) as well as a walled off XP vm for legacy hardware that doesn't support windows any more.
Update: and now I'm rigging ways to convert two 3.5 drive cradles to four 2.5 ssds.....
Somethings up with my iPhones alarm volume. I seem to be waking up later than usual. Didn’t have this issue on my android. Might have to bring my android out again for alarm
I like to warm them in a fried rice and when I put it in my mouth and pop it, it oozes tomatoey goodness. It's one of my little joys in life. CAUTION only do this when they are warm not hot.
anyone got a recommendation for a knock off apple watch band brand?
My SE no longer lasts a day so I'm thinking its time for a replacement, but my legit apple watch band is falling apart too so I'm thinking its time for a new one.
I've been saving up my Medibank points for possibly an Apple Watch. I've reached the point where I can buy a Series 9 GPS 41mm.
What I actually want is a pair of Sony 1000xm5 headphones, which retail for about $100 less than the watch. I need to find someone willing to do a swap or something.
Tonight's dins:
Was beef in lemon and yogurt and stuff on a stick.
I'll take half a dozen to start and keep'em coming.
Cheers
Lordy, Lordy, Lordy.
decadent as, what a feast!
My golly. I would die for those.
2 skewers please and 1 rice
Omg yesssssss
Guys!! My other half won Powerball! He split the winnings with me and now I’m $10 richer. Drinks are on me!
I remember when I was about 10 years old, my mum gave me one of her scratchies and I won $20 bucks! I felt like a millionaire. I remember spending my winnings on a Monsters in my Pocket collectors set which had all the monsters in it. One of the best days of my life.
How cool is that?! $20 is a lot when you’re 10.
Thanks 🍺
Wooo! 🥂
🧃Thank you!

I too have returned to our people. Regular Breakfast will resume tomorrow morning.
Hope that redacted went well :-)
thanks! it went so well! :D

My daughter found an photo (hard copy) of my old old cat from when he was a kitten.
From memory this photo is exactly 30 years old.
Photo of a black and white kitten
Kitty has seen some shit..
Later in his life he was missing a chunk of his ear and hospitalised a German Shepherd.
This was just first impressions.
Oh lord, that basically looks like a meme and not a kitten
Might have been his first day with us. Very intimidated but settled in quickly.
The eyes! Surely this is a toy!
100% real. He was probably 4 or 5 weeks old in this
A black cat wishing you all a fangtastic Friday 13th

Marceline says hellooo.
🧠🧠🧠
Miss Meow says Friday 13th can bugger off and she's not uncurling until the weather improves.
10/10 would bury face in mysterious void.
That’s such a cute photo!
I can't do a fang photo as she is fangless, so I have to go with cute instead.
Oreo says try me. I did and got a swipe!
Fishcat!
That’s the other one. Who just stole a lump of galangal. He isn’t orange, I swear…
Hello bat cat! That is a great photo!
Great pic 😻🦇
Oh he cheezin’
My iris is flowering 💐
Glorious! I love the way these flowers just dance in the breeze. Always looks choreographed to me.
Just realised it’s Friday the 13th! May the superstitions of this day help all your curses succeed! (Please use them for good not evil)
Bah, i refuse to indulge superstitions less than 200 years old. Bring me vintage curses only
Mitts off my patch! Or face the consequences ...
His Lordship and I have decided to have an absolutely over the top compliment day. Made a cuppa? Oh what rapturous divine beverage crosses my lips you truly are a credit to teamakers and all their arts! You have fed those felines with the grace and deftness of Apollo himself!
It's delightful.
I just impulse bought a large bar fridge. It is red.
Bar fridge? Nah beer fridge.
As I don't drink beer that seems like it would be a bad selection for me to put in it.
I always knew them as a beer fridge. I think someone came along and said "No. That's too bogan. We'll call it a bar fridge". Hahaha.
You should store your tequila in there. Tequila is lovely when it's chilled.
The only alcohol I have is some Chinese cooking wine, which won't benefit much from refrigeration.
And curvy too I hope
Tonight I introduced the man to one of my favourite snacks. His beady little eyes lit up.
That is buttered simit, peanut butter and a cheese to cleanse the palate.
His words were "omg omg omg" (more than once) "I think you're on to something" and "I need to buy some peanut butter to take to work".
Well that looks effective
3 simits for $4. Ash cheese from aldi $4.50. Butter and peanut butter. A relatively cheap and full filling snack.
Hi one plate for me please
fantastisch!
Only meal I ate today: rice with furikake, soy sauce, fishy olive oil and hot sauce, with soft fried eggs, and Portuguese sardines.
this is roe lol
I’m so tired I almost want to cry
I am tired too and I'm blaming ze weather.
lets cry together
Hugs
Today's shite
I second that motion.
Volatile neighbours at it again. Seriously, fuck them
Ted Cat chirped again. He will be ok 😸😭
( I also opened Ted's door, Bill ran in to steal his food. 🤬
That's one way to get Bill to eat fish ... Has Ted asked for snuggles/pats yet?
Ted kinda asks for pats sometimes.

Oh I agree completely. My 'junior' manager is the best boss I've ever had! Totally cut out for it.
No way I'd ever want to take on a management role again, just wish I had the guts to push through to something at a "technically" higher level.
What happened to starchy potato the starchy one? I’m not paying attention.
( I think ) glitchy phone, also very busy
Last I heard they had a bad cold, and a new phone, and was having trouble signing in with it.
Update: just DM'd and they're fine! Waiting for a reset link for their account which Lemmy thus far hasn't sent. The spud thinks they might have to set up a new account.
Oh wow ok 👍 love your work!
W I T N E S S M E
lol i am alive, just having issues getting a reset pw link so I can log in on my phone (i never remember my pw ugh)
but i exist still within my starchy domain, and shall return imminently to spread my glorious starchiness once more amongst my dear DTers lol
Hello ! and welcome back oh starchy one.!
Someone shouts you a free drink and a counter meal at the local. What are you getting? Me. The fisherman's basket and an ouzo & raspberry.
LLB and a parma I reckon
Classic. LLB is my preferred non booze drink.
Laid.
👉 😎 👉
burger and alcohol free beer
Parma with chips and a glass of wine!
Steak.. But not the special, the expensive one. And a glass of red.
That's the way
Pepsi-Cola and a pint of okra chips
I don't think I've ever seen a pint of okra chips on the menu and I've been to a lot of pubs.
You ain't going to the right pubs miss
Probably not.
Steak and beer but not at my local😭
An Espresso Martini (mixed or pre mixed idc) and a porterhouse steak, or fish and chips :D
I don't think I've ever had an espresso Martini. I may have to make that a goal of mine.
Fish n chips & a pot
Ooo. You're my kind of chicken.
I feel like this yo-yo weather is making all my houseplants sad. Don't worry guys, I feel just as wilty and confused as you do right now! On the plus side I think the humidity is helping some of them...
Watched “Asteroid City” last night. Still processing it lol🫠 I will say it’s the most Wes Anderson thing I’ve ever seen haha.
should i take a nap, yes or yes?
Yes.
Emergency situation. No tinned fish left? You need to drop everything and go to Coles worth or KT Mart
Quite the emergency, but it's rather cold out ... and I'll be gone for three weeks in a few days... but then again I don't want to be caught without supplies when I get back...
Have to take the train from city to Pakenham this afternoon.
Wish me luck on the "long" journey lol.
It surprisingly went quite smoothly. 1hr on the vline.
Morning. I got back to sleep eventually
Ugh, COVID is running rampant with PAX (I mean there is PAX pox but now with COVID...). I just hope I don't get it for the 2nd time, I'm already dealing with possible long covid stuff from last year (though I will say, that I took the risks so I only have myself to blame it just sucks).
Con Crud, Festival plague…, why do we people even?
I just wish people would fucking go home if they're sick. Did we learn nothing?
I did test yesterday and I got a negative so that's good. I don't feel sick but who knows!
I unironically love Xena (yes, am lesbian).
Got ublock origin? Go to the dashboard (click the shield, then the cogs) and under MY FILTERS enter the following:
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)
youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)
I am a dumdum… ages ago I got Firefox on my phone and tried to sort this out but adblockers don’t seem to work or be allowed on iPhone. I know that there are extensions for Safari but would those be detected and get my access blocked?
I’ve been trying to remember to use Brave for YouTube but I am definitely getting targeted ads from general browsing
DO NOT USE BRAVE I'm not even kidding that thing is absolute bad news. Like win11 levels of fuckery and tracking
Fucking marketing.
The internet is going to shit and avoiding/mitigating that is increasingly requiring tech skills I struggle to keep up with
I use brave browser which comes with a youtube ad blocker built in
Yes in Chrome, No in Firefox - so far... (both running uBlock Origin).
Hm, maybe this'll finally get me to go back to Firefox. I also run uBlock Origin.
FF FTW :D
People left Firefox? I think I came to Firefox from netscape.
That's me too: Lynx -> Mosaic -> Netscape -> Firefox.
Damn I'm old.
No, but I pay the $10/month to not have to worry about all that.
The Aldi stuff (Tandil I think) does a good job.
To really get rid of grease, I usually wipe cookware down with paper towels before popping into the sink. Rarely have issues.
All hail Tandil! Big bottle and decent price and actually works well.
Usually do wipe the grease, but these are just stray drops… It’s just odd knowing how particular I am with washing dishes.
For a sink or for a dishwasher?
I use Morning Fresh for my sink washed dishes.
Sink. I just checked and it’s Palmolive. I think that I have to go back to Morning Fresh.
You can almost always get it on sale. If it's not currently it'll be soon enough. I thought I was being smart and buying a big jug of it for refills. The big jug was more expensive than the regular sale prices.
Organic choice. Various flavours. Use that laundry liquid too. Earthchoice is good for floors etc, but their dish liquid is terrible for some reason.
I use Morning Fresh Ultimate but I think I like Fairy better after switching recently.
Morning fresh.
The tall bottle of lemon scented Earths Choice because it’s cheap
we get the giant dawn thingies from USA foods ('cos we also use it in homemade cleaning supplies) and use a scrub daddy dispenser 'cos His Lordship has portion issues.
Ask them to prove the costs they're charging. It's a fair cost only they can charge.
https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/housing/renting/starting-and-changing-rental-agreements/people-moving-in-and-out/transferring-a-rental-agreement
It costs $150ish to list a property on a real estate website, and they might do one or two. It seems proportionate to me.
Mmm but me moving in saves them that cost no?
Oh, I misread your post. Sorry. I'm not to sure, it does seem quite a lot in that case.
I'm surprised you're paying it, I thought it's usually borne entirely by the outgoing tenant
Mmm, from what i read online (and also my past tenancies) I’ve noticed that it’s usually split between the outgoing and incoming tenants 🤔
I'm so burned out with my masters degree at the moment. late on everything and the quality of all my work is awful. feels like I will have to write to my professors apologising for doing such a terrible job 🫠
In a meeting with some directors (online thankfully) and tempers are flying.
I'm sitting back and enjoying a BEvERage in a mug trying to hold back a smile.
Bloody legend!
Some popcorn would have been handy I reckon.
Fank fuck it's Friday.
Frankly, fuck Friday
It’s Friday, fuck Frank?
Frankly Friday's frightfully fucking freezing
Frig
Kind of digging these cool days. Shorts and hoodie are the best combo.
Actual conversation with my phone today:
"Hey Google, is it hot outside?"
"No, it is 30° and sunny."
The English dude who sits next to me laughed at that.
Rocking an old hockey jersey, sleeves rolled up. Core is nice and cozy, and the arms are free to do what they want. Definitely feeling it.

Huh. Shame if you've got Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia!
I can’t 😭😭
Police are drug testing on a busy road near me, and they already have a few commodores in the pull out of shame.
Ooooof. this hits hard!
Mmmm Lamb roast Drool
Figures that it starts clearing up just as I head overseas...
omg, I've been banned from the newspaper comments section
thinking what was it I said that could have riled people
I implied someone was stupid for not detecting sarcasm . Looks like they really couldn't take a joke.
There is so much agitprop/propaganda/lies out there at moment, I suggest go to sources like BBC and nyt only . Very reliable ones.
started watching Shereood based on someone's fairly tepid review here. Am enjoying it, and yes, the final scene of ep 2 adds an unexpected twist!
Oh yeah that was me. I didn't want to give too much away but that bit was stunning.
Thank god the day’s over.
Tucking into some SPC Dino pasta for a snack at the moment.
I was driving back from work and was so exhausted that I struggled driving home and staying in my lane.
Never felt like that before, my eyes were drooling and I felt like I could have fallen asleep.
Anyway I’m glad to have been able to get home in one piece.
Glad you got home safe!
Thank you!
I just came back from a nap.
I’m hoping I’ll have a good night’s sleep tonight.
so glad to hear you are safe friend. sounds like you are due some serious nappage <3
Thank you. I already had that nap and dinner was eaten, which could put me into a coma too.
Good to see you back as well!
I thought you mi go t have succumbed to your cold.
How are you feeling now?
better, much better. now im just working hard and being tired af haha
nah the cold has pretty much gone so im good :D
prolly gonna crash 'round 10 lol ughhh
Took myself out to the city for a spot of shopping, ramen + beer for dins, then ice cream from Piccolina for dessert which was delicious. Down the laneway was a Pidapipo which had a nightclub line. I waited in no line for my ice cream. Is it that much better? I swear people see a line and think yep I need to go there.
Yeah, I don’t get the queuing for things that you don’t need to queue for. I’m way too lazy for that.
Hmmmm.. Sharing a second bottle of wine. Will I manage a run in the morning?...stay tuned
I go for a walk on Saturday mornings. Takes all my courage not to ralph on someone's nature strip.
I reckon you will but it might not be in relatively straight line.
Hello surprise lamp post!
🔗 NSW police considering ‘extraordinary’ powers to search pro-Palestine protesters
The fact this is being contemplated is an absolute disgrace.
The cops seem to regularly declare areas of potential trouble around Melbourne a stop-n-search area, eg, Moomba was one. How would this be different? What makes it a disgrace?
The right to protest should be protected. No matter what. The police want to call this particular protest "illegal", and enacting these powers to search will have a chilling effect. The Human Rights Law Centre has condemned the NSW police minister and police for this.
The protest organisers are seeking to work with police on their concerns. Nobody should be subject to arbitrary search and compulsory identification simply for exercising their right to freely assemble.
"Designated areas" in Victoria should also be criticised, but teenagers don't have a human right to carry a flick knife.
Also don't understand why it's a disgrace. Seems like a reasonable (potential) harm-reduction measure to me
Compulsory identification and warrantless search on all protestors is reasonable?
Why don't we give that power to police 24/7?
Oh I almost forgot.. I had a pork & wild emu sausage roll for lunch at the pub. It was ok but nowhere near as good as the one from the bakery the other week. I can say I've eaten the coat of arms now though.
Does it really taste different for having emu in it?
It did taste different than other sausage rolls yeah. I don't think I can really explain how though but it was different.
Sometimes that's good enough! As long as it doesn't taste like your average run-of-the-mill sausage roll.. I imagine I'd feel a bit ripped off if it did.
Gotta hit up the Gin Gin Bakery in QLD for a croc pie! Smash one everytime I tumble through on my way up to FNQ.
That'd be interesting. I had croc spring rolls up at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures near Cairns and they were great!
11pm and I crave sausage in bread. Nothing I can do about it.
Maybe tomorrow I go to Bunnings and eat 2 sausage. Maybe even 3 sausage.
Democracy sausage is on the menu for tomorrow.
Democracy sausage!

Exercises completed, but I don't think anything will make up for the "goodbye" cakes I've had at work (cherished colleague's last day yesterday) and the apple & rhubarb fruit mince pies with vanilla icecream that I had last night. I thought I'd enjoy them while they last (Mr P eats the whole packet overnight so I've been buying them and missing out 😕) Gotta get 'em while the gettin's good!
just reheated stuff from the freezer for dinner tonight, there is a mystery meat pie as well as pizzas ???? 😂
We had a p night for dinner. Pies, pizzas and pommes. Because mum can't be p.....d.
a delicious feast gifted from your household freezer deity <3
Cheers on yet another miserable fucking day 🍺
Come on knackers, it's not that bad.
I like a little bit of sun. Even if I have to look at it through the window I just like a little bit.
Oh wow it’s that time already
🍻cheers !

Well, by all accounts I can safely say the Taylor Swift Eras tour movie is a 10/10. but of course the Swift Army infantry are a bit biased.
I laughed!
Oh look! Of course it's on YouTube.
I just watched that. Thank you.😊
Was absolutely pishing down in the city just before. I was watching the rain bouncing off the buildings near my office. Sun is out now so I'm taking the opportunity to flee home.
Weeeeeekeeeeennnnnnnd
Debating whether to go on a weekend/overnight adventure or stay home.
I didn’t order the rain deluxe for this afternoon. Might send it back to sky chef.
Tonight marks the final countdown to a job done! Regretting my decision to see the weekend out, am very over and done with it all.
Think of the money, I guess. And you’re in the home straight!
oooooh it's all gone a bit....Bigly.
Spooky!
I want to incorporate a 5-10 min mobility training into my workout. Can someone suggest a good video pls & ty
Hey @[email protected] you watching the cricket buddy?
Not tonight. Was there a good match on?
Bangladesh vs New Zealand. Bangladesh did better than the Aussies but the Kiwi's are about to cream them. NZ chasing 246.

So tired.
Those little yellowy-orange grape tomatoes that you get at coles are so damn good. So sweet and juicy.
I like to warm them in a fried rice and when I put it in my mouth and pop it, it oozes tomatoey goodness. It's one of my little joys in life. CAUTION only do this when they are warm not hot.
I miss the sun

anyone got a recommendation for a knock off apple watch band brand? My SE no longer lasts a day so I'm thinking its time for a replacement, but my legit apple watch band is falling apart too so I'm thinking its time for a new one.
I don't have Apple-specific recs, but I bought a strap for my Garmin from Mobile Mob, based here in Melbourne.
Happy with it?
I've been saving up my Medibank points for possibly an Apple Watch. I've reached the point where I can buy a Series 9 GPS 41mm.
What I actually want is a pair of Sony 1000xm5 headphones, which retail for about $100 less than the watch. I need to find someone willing to do a swap or something.
