Could be whisker sensitivity to the bowl edges so they eat the middle section and leave the sides.

I learned about this recently and we got extra wide bowls and it has all but stopped.

It's different immagine eating on a reflective plate ....double the food ... yeah fuck of big portions today I will skip dinner 😂

That's why I don't eat soup, the face in the spoon scares me.

Get a bowl that has the same color/texture as the food. Maybe it'll trick the cat into continuing.
