Update from 0.17.1 to 0.18.1?
I'm experiencing an issue, playlist details not loading, and see on github that my current version is not the latest. It is the latest on fdroid. Should I wait for fdroid to catch up or?

That's not an issue an update would solve, I assume you're using the app with an account and the instance you use just has been down for some time?
I did see messages about instance and found settings. Seemed like maybe changing instances did the trick. Can you point to or give guidance on choosing instances? Thanks
Press the three dot menu -> Settings -> Instances -> Select a different instance.
