Cool breakdown! Didn't realize that the material was so special. Definitely seems less practical than just a plastic case though. I'd like to see a case made out of the resin coated variant they used for the side grips. Seems like that would be an interesting look and a little more grime resistant.

Now that you mention it, I have an apple leather case from the 12 era on right now and the patina pattern is absolutely horrendous. I might need to put some oil over it or something.

It is rather poor quality, yeah. But I’ve come across some companies that use a way better grade of leather. I had one for an old Android a while back made from brown Horween leather, and it actually did develop a really nice patina over time.

Although one has to ask... When is the last time you ran your fingernail along your jeans and left a permanent indentation?

Fair enough. Scotchgarded mine. Didn’t change the colour at all.

I like the look and feel of the case. Will see about lifespan. Will likely get a leather case when it eventually fails.

So they don’t actually uncover what the material is made of (likely plastic), and no-one is commenting on the fact that this case is a recycling / plastic nightmare that has nothing to do with sustainability.

From Apple’s online store:

Made from durable microtwill, the material has a soft, suedelike feel. The FineWoven material was also designed with the earth in mind - it's made from 68 percent post-consumer recycled content and significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to leather.

Ah, it’s made of “post-consumer recycled content”.

I love products made of “content”.

I guess the word “plastic” has been banned by the apple marketing team.

2

Except that it’s very likely, if not already verified, that the fibers are made from recycled plastic…
