You thought Twitter went sour after Elon got involved? Wait till he has Grok churning out the next five Batman movies.

What kills me, more than anything, is that Ellison's daughter also ran a movie studio. And we got

  • The Master
  • Zero Dark Thirty
  • Her
  • American Hustle
  • Phantom Thread
  • Sorry to Bother You
  • The Ballad of Buster Scrugs
  • The Testament of Ann Lee

Like, some real bangers in this batch. Creativity, artistry, amazing performances, some real vinettes into history that don't get the attention they deserve.

So of course her studio flopped.

I would say flopped, but failed to be as big as, say, A24.

Everyone should watch I Love Boosters. One of my favorite movies of the year.

The bigger controversy though surrounds the video game arm of that publisher, which had all of its staff walk out in protest last year. Annapurna is still producing games, so guessing they must have hired replacements, but I'm assuming they had to dip into the Ellison family fund to avoid an embarrassment.

I mean to say, the company brought in significantly less than it spent, despite cleaning up at the Oscars on multiple occasions.

Well, like with the movies, they went for some high concept art house games rather than cheapo GACHA crap or grind house AAA looter-shooters.

What Remains of Edith Finch and Stray are both deep compelling games. But I'd be shocked if they covered their production budgets.

If her team walked out, it's likely because their paychecks bounced.

The walkout was due to her firing leadership to resume direct control of the company, IIRC. Annapurna was struggling, new leadership was instated to fix the sinking ship, the ship stopped sinking, and then suddenly she decides she wants to be involved again.

Something tells me a reboot of "Atlas Shrugged" is going to get the greenlight.
