Lentil soup and bread
This is a variation on mulligatawny. I had a pork steak bone in the freezer I needed to use so I seared it up and built the rest around the drippings and bones.
I went to puree this and my immersion blender died. 20 years of service. Time to do some research.

I need to be learning more lentil stuff. It's outside my normal wheelhouse but it looks so good!
They are stupid simple.
Vevor is the brand of immersion blender I have. They go on sale periodically for around 50% off and only cost ≈$50-75 when on sale. They are commercial grade though so, pretty much BIFL
I probably won't live another 20. Then again I didn't expect to live the last 20.
I just blinked and turned 50. Get the good immersion blender. :)
Looks a lot like my lunch from today! Red lentil and onion soup, Turkish style, with drizzled olive oil and lemon and a chunk of fresh bread.
Regarding immersion blender, my Costco had a good metal Cuisinart on sale some years ago and it's done me very well since then. Very easy to clean, multiple speed options and a detachable blender bit so the motor housing can be cleaned separately. I like mine and it was a good price at the time.
A lot of the metal body ones have plastic gears now. Enshittification.
:(
lentils are so cool
Very underrated in American culture.
Oh man, soup and bread is just such a staple for us. And I love it. Bread with cheese, bread with some kind of spread... Dip it, eat it, repeat.
I'm going to be doing a lot of soups in the coming months and because I need to heat the house I'm going to be making a lot of bread to go with it.
Very rustic and tasty looking.
