‘We can’t just pretend that everything’s OK in the regions’: what went wrong in Wangaratta?
At this week’s vigil, the chief executive of Regional Development Australia, Sarimah Hellyer, says it isn’t lost on her that one of the main issues Haines had fought for over the past seven years was better mental healthcare.
“There’s just so many holes in [mental health] service delivery,” she says. “There’s actually whole cohorts who aren’t catered for from a mental health perspective … We have one Headspace that basically supports the same catchment.”

I went to Wangaratta a few months ago. I walked past her office. I only took one pic during my visit.
Pretty sad memory.
The regions, in general, ARE neglected. For an example, here's a petition I came across about half an hour before I saw the above Guardian article. It gives some insight into what people have to face in general, let alone in lack of mental health care: https://www.change.org/p/urgent-action-needed-to-fix-rural-healthcare-in-murgon-south-burnett-gympie-regions?cs_tk=A8wrUUx6d-hRTYTt42oAAHicyyvNyQEABF8BvGIxOGQ2MmI0YjBlMTBmM2Q0MTc4YWU2NjljYjc4Y2MwOTA5YjI4MDY2NzQ4NGE5ZmVmOTA2YzgxYzc2NzJmZGU%3D
