Can we create a network ad blocker

I'm looking for a script that uses arp poisoning to impersonate the network DNS server and blocks all requests to ad servers.

Connect the device to any network and you've automatically got ad blockers for all devices without configuring anything.

Hacking for good.

Running a constant arp poisoning attack on a whole network trying to mitm the dns server just to block ads is going to be unreliable as hell, and it'll screw with more than just dns traffic.

If you control the network, it's far simpler and more reliable to point clients to a dns server that blocks ads. And if you don't control the network, probably shouldn't be attacking it this chaotically.

But it would be a fun little project.

I miss my days of playing with Wireshark and aircrack-ng. Although, now I can just whip up the same thing with Python and raw sockets.

You have to set Pihole up. This would intercept all DNS traffic through a MiTM, and block ads.

Pretty much. Any ad on that network, using normal DNS would be toast. No router or device configuration.

Why not just make the router redirect the dns server somewhere else?

Are you talking about actually hijacking a network?

Hm.

Haven't seen that done.

Also DNS over HTTPS would defeat it, yes?

DNS over HTTPS

This is probably about blocking ads on IoT devices... like smart TV's. They don't usually use DNS over TLS/HTTPS, but sometimes have ads...

The only thing I can think about is BlockAds, but am not sure if it's what you're thinking about and that thing is being developed with Claude assistance
