Dawn of War 4 clearly loves the Warhammer 40K strategy games that came before, but it misses that they loved to reinvent themselves

Dawn of War 4 is a very playable game but it's not got the same inventiveness of the games that came before it.

Interesting and fair take. the other impressions and preview I've watched is Zade's video on DoW4. He didn't really comment on the blandness of eventually making blob armies and throwing it to the enemy. Although Zade did play a lot more of what's available for the closed beta builds. And one thing that somewhat echoes the untacticalness of a blob army is that he wished there was some kind of system to augment whole squads at the same time instead having to click each squad and equip them with additional wargear to react tactically.

from what I've seen so far, and that's not a lot because I want to keep it as "blindly" as I can, I'm optimistically hyped. It's a return to DoW1 in terms of base building and such. The Last Stand that I played a whole ton of from DoW2 makes a comeback, and from the most recent trailer they showed a very extensive painter. I'd say from what was shown, it's basically digital mode of painting your own plastic crack. Without going broke buying GW's models.

from Zade's video as well, he mentioned that there are already playable Imperial Guard in the campaign. And from the looks of it is surprisingly fleshed out. No doubt I think if DiW4 sells well, IG, is most likely to come out as DLC. Hopefully it comes out as a campaign expansion.

and most importantly of course I'm waiting for reviews on Linux systems, as I've gone the way of the penguin. Even if I use Windows, I'd still wait for reviews and a couple weeks before purchasing. On Linux more so that I find people's experience playing I assume via proton.
