I had a small fire in my oven while in clean mode. Does that just... happen sometimes when you put it in clean mode?
I kept it all contained. Kept the oven locked. Turned it off. Grabbed a fire extinguisher just in case, and I did not need it.
Please let me know if I should turn it back on clean mode to get all the shit out or hire someone to.

My owners manual says "fire cleanses all" but honestly my Aramaic is a little rusty...
But yeah, "cleaning mode" doesn't get out soap and brushes, it gets it so hot that anything in there is cremated.
If it's enough for visible flames, that means you didn't clean it out enough first. Like, if a whole pizza falls thru the grate, you can't just turn on cleaning mode.
"Cleaning mode" is for after it's been wiped down and everything swept/brushed out. Then you sweep/brush what used to be hard globs out as soft ash.
So (obviously wait for it to cool down), open it up and sweep it out. Then try clean mode again.
Not with that attitude
You're supposed to clean it manually as much as possible, you likely didn't do that. There should be nothing left in there that can catch fire before you activate the clean mode.
It's not for general cleaning, but a supplement to get the hard-to-impossible-to-clean-normally stuff out.
Thats exactly what cleaning mode is, what were you expecting?
Cleaning mode basically runs the heating element at max until everything is charcoal.
More like until everything is ash.
"cleaning mode" is just frying everything to carbon with crazy heat.
I doubt visible flames are good in much of any way, as flame can be much hotter than ovens can tolerate. The byproducts of flame from even just food are vast and many are cancerous, too.
Regardless, you'll have to clean out the soot and other products of combustion, or else you're eating many things not even open fire could reduce past toxicity (which is a lot of things)
"self-cleaning" isn't about magically being clean, but about reducing most things to soot/smoke, which can easily enough be wiped up/vented.
It's about making cleaning easier. Not about literally being "self-cleaning".
To recover from this, just clean all surfaces within the oven thoroughly so there cannot be any unwanted byproducts in future endeavors, and you'll be fine until next cleaning time.
Never had a fire. Smoke yes. Probably built up grease. I'd try regular oven cleaner from the store, get the worst up, then try clean mode again.
Do. Not. Use. Cleaning. Mode.
It's really bad for the oven's electronics.
My oven is 15 years old and I use cleaning mode once a year. The heating elements have failed and needed replacement but not the electronics.
If insulation didn't work well enough, cabinets would scorch because they are right up against the sides while the electronics have a few extra inches gap.

Yes. Once. Little tornado of a flame. No damage.
Mine was also a bit of a tornado
