Jensen Huang sends in the robot ducks to sell Nvidia's AI-everywhere vision

The Nvidia chief remained his usual ebullient self despite environmental protesters interrupting his presentation at Berlin's tent-shaped Tempodrom.

"Why don't you clean up your act?" they demanded, holding up banners that partially obscured the presentation screen behind Huang.

"All important issues, but let me get through my keynote," he joked, adding: "I'll talk to you guys later," as security swiftly removed them.

...

Huang closed with a CGI video of robots performing a Eurovision-style song recapping his keynote. Yes, it was as bad as you imagine.

Welcome To The Future

Nvidia claims deployment could shrink from six months to as little as 14 days at a prepared site. That excludes the not insignificant matter of getting power, connectivity, and other site infrastructure ready first.

Pairs well with that report about Amazon having billions of dollars worth of GPUs in storage because they don’t have DCs to put them in. At least these come pre-packaged in a container you can just park somewhere!

"At 2 gigawatts, DSX can save 54 million litres of water a day," Huang claimed, perhaps thinking of those environmental protesters.

That’s the equivalent daily water use of 375,000 people (UK figures). Obvious next question is “yes but how much water are you still using after that?”

So wait, if you recategorize all the hardest parts as "preparing the site" then the project speeds up significantly?

“At 2 gigawatts, DSX can save 54 million litres of water a day,”

So the datacenters do use a massive amount of water.

Just as AI and quantum computing that doesn’t suck is always just a little bit off in the future, data centres that churn through horrendous amounts of water are always a thing of the recent past.

You reached the end
