I would sit at her feet and listen to her all day if I could. Such an amazing voice, talent, and the costuming for her in The Expanse was absolutely stunning.

at her feet

You'll never beat the allegations now

I can't stand her voice, and I can't understand why she keeps getting cast.

-8

Clearly because others do not share your opinion. Which is fine. If it was up to me as to what programs would get made, 95% of the dreck out there woudln't. But others like them, so they get made. :)

I like the voice but I find her cadence and accent a bit off putting. It makes her hard to follow. It's like the emphasis is in the wrong place, often, but she has a smoky rasp that is great.

So I get why people like her. I also get why some don't. What I don't get is people downvoting you for having an opinion that's valid, just different to theirs.

Because unnecessarily petty in suggesting the actress shouldn't be cast. That's not having an opinion, that's just being shitty.

7
hitmyspotreply
aussie.zone

Well, if you don’t like someone, it is not unusual to wonder how they got cast. That would assume not realising other people like her, a lot, which they do.

2

And it's not unusual to get downvoted for being such a petty little shit. Opinions don't deserve praise just for existing.

From my perspective, you're being ruder and pettier than they are. And in a thread they are involved in. The actress is unlikely going to ever hear their opinion.

They will hear yours. Maybe choose to share it in a kinder way and you can be the change you seem to want.

My parter wasn’t that interested in Arcane but after hearing her voice, she was in.

Don’t stick your dick in it Holden, it’s fucked enough

Okay so now im interested in Arcane. Is it any good?

Season one was a masterclass in storytelling and animation, and a solid criticism of the systems that create and maintain "order" by oppressing others.

Season two was entertaining, but it walked back a lot of the ideas the first explored. It was jarringly inconsistent with the themes and development of the first. But it was pretty to look at and had good music.

4

This is the best summary and review of Arcane. I 100% agree here. At least watch season 1, it's worth the watch and you really don't need to know anything about the lore of Legaue of Legends to appreciate it on its own merits.

3

Yes, it is fantastic and some of the best animation I’ve seen. The soundtrack fits it perfectly, highly recommend that too

1

It's so good. Stop reading what everyone else is saying and just watch.

I knew nothing of the lore previously and had zero issue following anything.

3
lemmy.blahaj.zone

It does, but it fits a lot into two seasons and would probably have benefitted from being 3.

Mostly its a lot of 'twists' in season 2 that aren't actually twists if you already knew who the characters are, but definitely would have benefitted from just a bit more time to flesh them out.

Don't let that dissuade you though, it's still by far one of my favorite shows. The characters are all really interesting and compelling and it pulls on your heartstrings in a way very few shows manage to do (imo).

So whats the source material, i assumed it was a netflix cg original. If im thinking of the right show of course. I read light novels every day so im not opposed to going for the books over a show. I actually love watching something and then reading more since i can now easily put faces to names.

It was the same with the expanse, i started book 1 after my boss recommended it to me, then a couple days later he said there was a show so i immediately switched to that and then read the series.

0

It's exaggerated in the show, but there is a "UN Mom" type that works for the UN, dresses like a peacock at a fabulousness contest and swears like a docker when the microphones arent around.

I had a few Professors who were connected to the UN like this, and Francesca Albanese is another example.

janeway would be swearing everytime because of her coffee addiction, if it wasnt on national networks.

Tuvok you’d better find me some fucking caffeine or I’m shoving you and Neelix back into the goddamn transporter room. Full fucking impulse into that nebula!

Tuvok gets to vent his emotions on killing neelix in the holodeck, i believe it was when he absorbed suders Psycopathy.

My dream for the Trump family:

"Good. And please let him know that, if they can't, I will rain Hellfire down on them all; I will freeze their assets, cancel their contracts, cripple their business. And I have the power to do it, because I am the fucking hero who helped save Mother Earth from the cataclysm that Jules-Pierre Mao unleashed. Tell his children the government is more powerful than any corporation, and the only reason they think it feels the other way is because we poor public servants are always looking for some fat private sector's payoff down the road. And I'm not looking. And by the time they can pull the strings to force me out, it will be too late. Their family will be ruined. Their mother, their children, their children! All of them: pariahs! outlaws! Hunted and on the run for the rest of their days, until we find them, and nail each and every last one to the wall. Make sure you tell them that."

I bet regardless of what political/religious/ethical philosophies you adhere to, I can find prominent people who represent that philosophy well, who swear.

You don’t think you listen to people who swear, but you do. You just may not have directly heard/seen them swear.

7
lemmy.ca

So now that I’ve read your post, you’re gonna swear in private and tell yourself you were right because i listened to you, a chap who swears? 🤣

-2
lemmy.world

No, lol. But I am going to ask you to explain why you think swearing should delegitimize a person’s opinion? What is the logical reason behind your stance?

I just wantesd to hop in here and state that there are no bad words. Words have no inherent morality.

And out of respect I will not type it out, but the F word is one of the most versatile in the language.

2
lemmy.world

I agree, and I personally swear all the time. But I grew up in a family and culture that believed swear words were morally wrong, and had to deconstruct that (among many other things) on my own, so when I see other people expressing beliefs that I used to believe, I like to try to engage with them :)

3

Good on you! I wish I had the patience to engage evangelicals like that but I went no contact with most of my family because I just can't.

2

Be a school teacher so you can teach that to the kids. Act now, be your community's hero.

I’m not a prude and I curse a lot. Her cursing was too much for me and actually soiled the product. It was just annoying after a while.

-22

Best not read the books then! They toned her down for the show.

19
lemy.lol

To each their own. I tend to swear about the same amount so it never really hit me. I've definitely been asked to tone it down before lol

I mean it just killed the art for me. It was obnoxious and overused. Like okay we get it, you say fuck every 2 words. So edgy.

-4
Breezyreply
lemmy.world

Not edgy, fuck you. People who curse a lot exist, and are the most up front all in your face honest people. They know their own worth and are sick of fucking dumb lazy jack asses acting like they contribute a god damn thing.

Are you a child? I guess bad words are lil much for you. Or maybe you one of those lazy fucks who disliked being callee out on.

3

Guess you're just a dumbass bot who can't form sentences lol. God it has to suck being someone like you.

3

You say this like it's possible to suggest a character has a certain characteristic of speech but then not demonstrate it.

MehBlahreply

It was perfect and from the book. I've known a few women with mouths like that and they were some of the most honest and trustworthy people I've known.

9
MehBlahreply
lemmy.world

I kinda like that but in my experience no one is more vulgar in far to many social settings than someone who has plenty of money.

2

Ironically, those "with" and/or "from" money tend to be distrusting of it, and project their internally ever-present fear of weakness outward onto the world.

Every time they puff up and get loud, they're just squashing their fears of being the inept, impotent, and unworthy cowards we already know them to be.

Diplomat is kind of understating it though.

::: spoiler Minor spoiler She is the scion of a political dynasty that is serving as "Under-Secretary-General" in the UN when we get to know her, so two steps away from the throne of Earth, having access to black ops and military assets, without ever having been elected. :::

Also towards your earlier point, I always took her brash attitude as intentionally annoying. Like that's the whole point of it, narratively. It's a tool she uses to unsettle others. Which is why it fits so nicely in the OP.

20

That’s pretty much on point according to the books. It’s her more natural speech to swear, but she does intentionally use swearing to unsettle her political opponents and try to glean some information from it.

10

shes been many other movies, in the expanses she curses alot. she often says STfu to people.

1

i damn well kind of fucking agree, not that the motherfucking cursing itself was fucking dogshit, it just fucking felt a fucking tad fucking forced.
