UWP looks like it still isn't supported, which is probably the main blocker on Linux. That's a Wine level feature, though, and likely requires a huge amount of work for only a relatively small amount of games.
Forza Horizon 3 is probably the only game from the UWP era I care about, though.
FH3 was the only game I ever bought on the Xbox App and it stopped working for me after a year so I ended up having to grab a cracked copy anyway. Was all back when I still used Windows.
People have wanted game pass on steamOS for a long time, a lot of people are already paying for it, and want to be able to play those games without buying it again.
Of course game pass isn't as good of a deal as it used to be, so the demand is smaller now.
Even when it was a better deal, I would constantly forget it was a thing and later find I could have tried steam games I got on sale for "free" (considering I was playing the sub at the time either way). Though tbh, that only really mattered for the games I ended up not liking, since I'm glad I already had the ones I did like on steam when I cancelled my xbox gamepass sub right before switching to linux, as it was the last thing holding me back.

Too little too late; this would've been great back when I first switched to Linux but now it's a shitty deal.
Can we play windows store games though? I still have some that I haven't rebought yet.
Yes it can, but not all windows store games are supported. The full compatibility list is here
My understanding is that most newer releases are supported, but older games (mainly those using UWP) aren't working yet.
Nice!
No thanks.

Sunset Overdrive for me! Though I believe it got a Steam release so it’s less relevant to this issue
It certainly did, and it was one of the earlier games to work great with DXVK/Proton.
I don't understand the point of this. You can't use PC game pass to play any Xbox exclusives, and everything else is already available on PC.

Good points. Thank you for clarifying!

This will be hill climb racing in 2016
