I wonder how these compare to bone conduction headphones
Bone conduction is great and better for safety, but bass quality suffers a bit. I use my Shokz open run 2's for outside running as I can hear outdoor sounds much better.
My Bose Ultra 2 Open earbuds gen2's (clipons) have better quality sound, but can still drown out external noise which makes them much better for the gym. (I like my music loud.)
Clipons, at least with the ones I have tried can be fussy with their fit. If you are ultra-sensitive to imperfect stereo imaging, you may have a bad time. (If one earbud is slightly out of position, the stereo balance will be off.)
My Shokz are great, but are lacking in some midrange and bass, even though they attempt to correct this by firing the bass back into your ear, which is a massive improvement, but still not perfect.
Clipons have better sound, bone conduction is better for safety and a comparison can be apples to oranges based on what your own preferences are, TBH.
I am super picky about sound quality, so I tolerate my Bose clipons even though Garmin compatibility is shit. My Shokz win, hands down, for durability and safety even though it's "meh" sound. (I use ear-gear that fits the occasion, just like every other tool of mine.)
I am the opposite of picky about sound quality, my aftershokz are the only headphones I own and they're great!
