I travel several times a year for 1) Lolas (you get tacos here year round, and tamales at christmas), 2) Grubbies (you can go burrito, but I think they've got the best taquitos, which is my jam), and then 3), Lourdes, for chicken soup.
Sour cream and fries Inside a burrito? What goddamn, bland, bullshit is this? Why not add a slice of white american cheese?
Gotta say, though. That trick with cheese between two grilled tortillas sounds pretty inspired. If someone takes a Mission burrito and adds this to it, they might have a street in San Francisco named after them.
And if they grill the outside with cheese (like a Quesabirria) and serve it with consomé, they might be entitled to a whole neighborhood.
I gotta keep an eye out for that on a menu: Oaxacalifornia-style
I wonder if Aliberto's in Berkeley has it?
I wasn't a big fan of their San Diego-style burrito though.
San Francisco isn't the center of the region for Mission style burritos either: I've had better burritos in Richmond, Pinole, Oakland, Concord, and Hayward than most that I've eaten in the City.
For Mission burrito, everyone beelines it for 24th Street and the same places. Personally, I prefer Pancho Villa on 16th, or Cancun on 19th if the lines are too long.
Best quesabirrias I've ever had were in the converted backyard of a home in Richmond, and a tiny hole-in-wall in a strip mall in San Jose. Crisp outside. The consomés were rich, and the one in San Jose had bone marrow in it.

It was not a packed news day at the SFGate.
12 in each city? Bruh there are 12 burritos in San Diego I still think about.
Do you think about them in a longing way while sitting by the window? Maybe... One day... Burrito will come back into your life. Don't lose hope.
