Majority of Americans think Donald Trump is using presidency to enrich himself, new poll finds – live

Within the new polling from the Washington Post and ABC, 48% of respondents said they are financially worse off than when Trump returned to office in 2025.

According to the Post, that represents the highest percentage saying this about any president in this series of polls since 1986.

A majority of those surveyed – 67%– also said that Trump is not committed to protecting freedom of the press. This comes after a protracted battle to ban CNN, MS Now and Politico from the White House grounds. A federal judge has subsequently issued a preliminary injunction blocking the administration from enforcing the ban.

Meanwhile, 61 % people also said that Trump is not committed to free and fair elections, according to the poll.

I don't think he's using the presidency to enrich himself.

I know he is.

I know he is.

It's not whether people believe he is; the real question is whether they understand that he is.

That's an IQ test, really.

I know most will see the title and think 'well no shit', but that polling is reflecting these things we all kinda just understand to be evidently true is a big deal.

The culty mentality has been enough to shield Donald in the past and, while he won't face any meaningful accountability, this anger is what's driving the two dozen or so DSA candidacies that might actually result in some measure of positive change after November.

Agreed, the point of the poll is not to show what 86/47 IS indeed enriching himself, is not committed to press freedom, etc. We already know these things are facts. The point is that many more people now realize these facts, despite propaganda to the contrary.

It’s not that people don’t think that. It’s that a large number of people think he’s entitled to

It’s that a large number of people

*Used to

Even a majority of Republicans no longer subscribe to that thinking.

And if you can, vote early and in person. I'm not an alarmist, but the knowledge that there are plenty of legal ways to fuck with your ballot via the USPS is something that cannot be ignored.

Every single administration did this. Trump is a better criminal. The democrats lost over gaza.. I hate every ameriham president ever. It is like starting from day one everyday with ya'll. Capitalism is the issue. It enables this type of behavior. Billionaires should face the death penalty. You think you are voting but what you are doing is similar to a beauty pageant. Politicians enrich themselves... as they bop you on the head.

Yeah. And the sky is blue. People who didn't see this when they voted in 2016, 2020, and 2024 can get fucked.

Nobody voted in the US in those years, except for some very small local elections. Those are off years.

I was half-awake when I typed that. I meant the 16/20/24 cycles. I blame the pre-caffination state clause!

3

This is not a reasonable take.

DSA's need this anger. They need those votes. Whether they saw it before or not is no longer relevant. Getting some measure of change in this election, which we know isn't going to come from centrists or Republicans, is what matters.

That's especially true with another burgeoning forever war and a genocide happening right in front of our eyes, both of which are supported by centrists and Republicans.

You reached the end
