[India] Bilevel Chennai Metro viaduct with Phase 2 Corridors 4 & 5 running on two levels
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/53327132
This is a bilevel Metro viaduct where Chennai Metro Corridors 4 and 5 converge, with five tracks supported by a single set of pillars across two levels. The fifth track is a sloping loop line that will connect Corridors 4 and 5.
The viaduct spans roughly 4 km along Arcot Road between Alwarthirunagar and Alapakkam.
The lower level costs Corridor 4 (Lighthouse to Poonamallee), while the upper level hosts Corridor 5 (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur).

Elevated rail is such an important factor in keeping costs for metros down.
