It might have been a CVS but I once had a very old employee stalk me around a pharmacy while I looked for the two younger sisters I brought with me who had run off. When he asked if I needed help I asked if he had seen them and he just said no and kept stalking me.
Eventually I found them and stopped to read a package that had caught my eye by being surprising and stupid in a way I can't even recall anymore, and he sneaks up behind me and says something like "It's not worth it, don't try." I just turned around and gave him the most disgusted look and said "You think I want to steal this garbage?" and laughed in his face. I waved at him with a big smile from the checkout with the sisters he probably thought were made up.
I'm white as the driven snow (and so was he). I wish it had been a cat instead.
One time I was stopped near checkout at a Walgreens and the dude told me it's illegal to put something down in the wrong spot (I must have decided not to get it). I knew he was wrong, but also I was a straight-edge, boring kid who would have never even considered shoplifting! I hope he had a hard time finding a new job when that store closed. I can't even imagine what it's like for people of color...
