I've heard mixed things -- most prominent that it's a way for the elite to dismantle a hero of the working class, especially in these turbulent times
Edit: Also wow, didn't know Chumbawamba did this!
The Digger's song especially sounds like inspiration for The Hobbit's Misty Mountains Cold song (which fits!), as well as the When I Needed a Neighbour hymn.
