Bloody marvellous, burn to death during heatwaves or freeze to death to make tiny difference to the climate while the rich destroy the planet unchallenged, we constantly have to make sacrifices, how much longer until we say it's enough?

You say that, but did you recycle?

I'm in Germany so don't really have a choice, but here there's still so much that is separately packaged, the amount of garbage that comes from food is insane.

1

It's a joke because they industry foisted blame for wasteful packaging and such onto consumers in the 90s or so. The story came out in the news some years back.

And people wonder why the populace is turning away from the established parties. For many, any change, good, bad or moonshot, is worth a try

This is about the UK, your septic shit hole doesn't need mentioning here.

This is heartbreaking. I wish the government cared about it's people.

It’s the voters that are the problem. If voters consistently voted for a government that took care of the people then it would.

But half or more vote for the tories. How many years did UK have Tory rule?

3

Labour isn't doing much better either. UK can't catch a break. As for the voters, they're being manipulated by an organized and well funded misinformation machine on multiple fronts. Look what it did to maga, Brazil, everywhere. Voters carry blame, but not all of the blame.

What would you do to improve on the situation? Please be specific

Offer financials aid to those in need, prioritize it over militarization. Offer tax incentives for switching to heat pumps. Offer tax incentives for renewable energy.

Financial aid and tax incentives are good thoughts however they would need to be carefully costed as very few houses in the UK have heat pumps so this could go into the hundreds of billions of pounds.

The tories have plundered the state for tax breaks for their mates in the city and Brexit has destroyed trade between the EU and the UK.

Fucking Tories at the bottom of every problem :( I guess I figured the push to militarize could be balanced with aiding the upgrade of heat pumps, I need to remember that the UK is a smaller country than the US and has a smaller pool of tax revenue to pull from. I just hope some kind of solution comes before people freeze to death in the winters.

Its more fundamental than that. The infrastructure is not built for it. Some houses having wiring from the 1800s and would need rewiring and a new switchboard before even considering a heat pump system. Local electricity substations might even need upgrading, conceivably.

2

Ugh yeah I didn't even think of that, Europe has so many challenges :( I remember getting water radiator heating into my place in Bulgaria, I was still a kid but it was so expensive, took 3 incomes and a lot of saving, that's in the USA where salaries are higher.

2

Now that’s dedication to climate mitigation! Thank you for your service 🫡

Define cold? In a maritime climate, it's not life ending generally. It still sucks though.

You reached the end
