It makes me sick to my stomach that this is even on the ballot. Let kids play sports with their friends.

I-638 supporters want you to believe it’s about keeping girls “safe” in sports, but voters need to understand what the initiative actually does. Under I-638, every girl, not just trans girls, would be required to get medical certification of their sex from a doctor. According to doctors, the only way to comply with the initiative would be to conduct invasive genital exams, or for girls to get expensive genetic or hormone tests. And because these procedures are medically unnecessary, doctors say those tests would not likely be covered by insurance.

The initiative doesn’t allow parents to use a birth certificate to prove their child’s sex. And the fact is, many kids don’t have a regular family doctor, so getting this verification will be even harder for girls in rural areas of our state, as we have in northwest Washington.

Yep, it's insane. If my daughter wants to play school sports when she's older she would need to drop her pants or get lab work done. No way.

If this passes, I hope it gets challenged and thrown out on Title IX grounds.

Well, fuck. The courts won't save us.

On June 30, 2026, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that laws in Idaho and West Virginia banning transgender women and girls from competing on women’s and girls’ athletic teams are constitutional. The court held that these laws do not violate either Title IX or the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
