How, if at all, do you wish to not comply with Bill C-22
Please note I said "wish", not "plan". Congratulations, this conversation is now all speculative conjecture and it's legal to talk about.
I have transitioned to GrapheneOS and a Linux distro as my primary OS. Stopped my cloud services and host on my NAS with old ass drives with a lazy man's 3-2-1 backup. If I wanna do something sketchy, imma use Mullvad.
More than that... but I wanna hear from you guys!

First, this will be challenged in court. C-22 violated sections 8 of the Charter which states "Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure" Forcing service providers to collect data without a warrant violates Canadians rights to privacy.
As for steps I've taken or will take:
Overall, I don't plan of changing much as I've already done most of the work on my privacy journey.
Truthfully, I'm more concerned about ID verification (commonly called age verification).
Written to my MP 3 times, 2 for C-22 and 1 for both that and the verification. Do what I can do but not hopeful it does much. I tell anyone I can to also give it a shot citing how much of a pain it is if it goes through.
Good for you man! My most recent has been C-22, before that was airport privatization. I hope people start writing their MPs more, it's super easy.
I'm on grapheneos. Deleted google, twitch, insta, reddit. Using a janky linnux distro.
Want to learn to self host. But I'm very computer illiterate.
The best place to start is the bottom, knowing that you know nothing. That lets you approach it with humility and openness.
I would recommend playing around with things in a virtual machine or getting some old hardware up and running using something super automatic like CasaOS and then getting a few wins out of that. Running on real hardware is good if you can just leave it running and have some basic services you can set up and play with. I would recommend getting Nextcloud up and running as a good start. Have fun!
Hey if you just wanna get up and running, while I've never tried it personally, some people seem to like YunoHost.
Before you know it you'll catch the bug and be running Proxmox with unprivileged LXCs or custom docker containers with a reverse proxy and recursive upstream DNS.
I know that second paragraph is gibberish right now, but if you catch that bug, it won't be anymore! And if you end up sticking with the simple stuff, that's totally valid too!
Congrats on your journey my friend!
Self-hosting of everything I can including LLMs. Proton for email and some other gaps. Empty up my Google account from anything not strictly needed.
Nice!!
You just reminded me, a while back I emailed a bunch of companies and developers to hear their responses on their plan for C-22. Tomorrow or the next day l'll dig through my emails and comment here, or make another post if that's better.
Glad to see Canadians standing up for their right to privacy!
I want to read about that.
Posted it
Same
Ok just so it reaches as many Canadians as possible, I'm gonna make it a new topic. I'll post it in this community when I'm back home and have easy access to everything. I'll reply to you here if you'd like so it doesn't fly past. Cheers bud!
Switch to foreign services in theory. Corrupt politicians apply the law retroactively expecting psychics.
