I wish projects like this would explain their motivation. Nowhere in the linked article or git repo is it ever stated why this would be better to use than existing solutions.

From what I can see, it's like midnight Commander or Norton Commander but written in rust

I always liked Norton Commander 30 years ago. If I knew they'd create crap ware though shortly after, I might have had different opinions

Yes and since midnight commander and numerous other similar file managers already exist, it would be helpful to understand why the author thinks this one is worth switching to from the one I'm already using.

For me, having everything and the kitchen sink built in is def a negative.

That's fair

I think personally it's not a bad thing for devs to work on projects they want to work on. I used to think the opposite

But I agree a comparison at least would be a good idea

I totally agree. However, as soon as they turn that project into a pitch site I also think it become fair game to review it as such.

I'd venture to guess often it's someone learning to code and trying a basic project. Or even producing something entirely by AI and testing how well it produces. Or maybe they have plans for features that will come later that offer something new or better.

This is why documentation & commenting and release notes are vital, but very often the author will not bothered to do so. It's not fun enough, but conspicuously places them in amateur status.
