My motto is "Semper Paratis"

I can get by with minimal stuff, but I never travel without my Swiss Army knife

From repairing someone's radiator while camping in New Zealand to fixing a broken suitcase in Japan, it has proved invaluable many times

TSA has confiscated so many swiss army knives from me. I always keep one in my pocket and feel almost naked without one. I don't feel like my pocket knife is as big of a threat to a plane as my cellphone battery is.

It's easier to take off a scuba suit if you don't need it, than to put one on if you need it but don't have one.

I stopped packing so much. Like the saying goes, "No matter where you go, there... 's a Walmart (or similar)."

I used to travel to NYC a lot for work, from Europe. I didn't need to pack a suit. I usually packed a change of underwear and a t-shirt, and laptop etc in my cabin bag. I usually bought some jeans and a few clothes which were cheaper, like brand jeans, etc. Some toiletries (the small travel sizes) when not provided by the hotel. Then I would go to Canal and buy the cheapest bag for the return.
