Michigan parents charged with misdemeanors after 3-year-old son displayed loaded gun at daycare

The parents of a 3-year-old Detroit-area boy who had a loaded gun in his backpack at a daycare were charged with misdemeanor crimes Thursday as prosecutors also revealed the firearm was passed to other kids before a staff member intervened.

The gun was not fired and no one was injured.

“It is very unsettling to think about what may have happened in this case,” Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

One parent was charged with violating Michigan’s gun storage law, while the other parent, a Detroit-area police officer, was charged with creating a risk of harm, which is fourth-degree child abuse. They appeared in court and were released on bond.

No one else surprised one of the parents is a a cop? This is why they need a license. Their's needs a lifetime revoke. A three year old got their gun.

Misdemeanours. Jesus Christ. Does Michigan not have reckless endangerment as a felony or are they just so gun brained that your toddler finding your loaded firearm, bringing it to school, and passing it around to their fellow toddlers doesn't count?

One of the parents is a cop. I'm guessing they looked for the most lenient charge that would still feel "reasonable" to those involved.

Right?! The other article linked in the first says;

Bialy said the child’s other parent is a police officer from a neighboring jurisdiction. He said the handgun found at the daycare was not a service weapon.

Oh goody, it wasn't their service weapon. Nothing to see here, folks. Just a normal gun in the hands of a three year old. Plural because a three year old can't hold a handgun in one hand. I note that there is not a peep about disciplinary action for the officer who is charged with "creating a risk of harm, which is fourth-degree child abuse."

Michigan has a law that charges gun owners if a kid hurts someone with a gun. This involved a cop though so laws don't apply.

And no one got hurt, so the law doesn't apply to anyone in this circumstance.

That's how laws work.

One of the biggest delusions of the gun-brained is the idea that gun accidents are "personal responsibility" and a simple matter of choices made by those involved. The truth is that there are too many guns and guns are dangerous and stuff like toddlers and dogs shooting people is just a mathematical eventuality.

Our country has chosen to be just as irresponsible with guns as these parents. Charlie Kirk was right to say that the 2nd costs innocent blood, I just disagree with him that it's a good trade.

I'm sorry for whatever your English teacher did to you, but don't make it my problem. You have to understand that well-adjusted adults don't tremble in fear before the mighty red pen. English is a dirty slut and I can use her however I want, and there is nothing you can do about it you can't do nothing about it.

Wrong community ? It isn’t really news, just some weird US Americans doing their usual weird shit in the USA - for non-US Americans this is more like paranormal or clownish news??

Sounds like news to me, even if it wasn't particularly important news. If you want news specific to just your country, find a specific news community. I've never complained for seeing news that wasn't from the country I live in

It's really fucking annoying but Americans took all of the global sounding communities for US-only local topics just like on reddit so this sort of post is within the rules

See, the USA is the default and only country that matters and if anyone else wants to talk about their local news then it has to be done in the corner hidden away lest it be seen by an American

1

Well, this isn't an American only community. News from anywhere can be posted, so if you want more Canadian news, post it
