Good job!
Is there a deposit system for bottles and cans in your area?
I’ve also thought about going on a little “detrash” canoe trip with friends on our little river, and I imagine we’d often find bottles, Styrofoam, and cans… basically anything that floats.
Luckily, we have a system here that works pretty well for plastic and glass bottles as well as cans. It’s only small change, but if you collect trash often enough, it somewhat does add up...
I also keep coming across cans from before the deposit system was introduced, or, especially along the roads, ones that have been run through the road maintenance department’s shredder and are therefore no longer accepted. Right now, I’m collecting them and want to see if it’s worth selling them as aluminum scrap once I’ve gathered a few buckets’ worth.
I recently found a video showing that this is apparently possible, at least in the U.S.:

unfortunately there isn't any deposit system, but for the cans we do have curbside recycling, so I try to separate them and toss em in my bin.
Ah, I see, that's too bad!
