It identified two distinct pathways to recurring BV: persistence of the condition despite a weeklong course of antibiotics, and re-infection.

Summary.

The scientists now plan to trial longer treatment lengths and combinations of multiple antibiotics.

This is incredibly dumb.

That's legit great. It means there's a decent chance of directly helping people now, since there's zero drawback to handling the "infection" with cotreatment of partners. Wellll, not zero, but extremely low.

And, the article actually makes note of the limitations of the study itself rather than just going for click bait and half-assing the journalism. It's at the end, but that's still way better than most science reporting.

And yeah, it was pretty well known that partners could trigger BV, be they new partners or regular ones. But that wasn't well documented in rigorous way.

I had heard the first part before about men carrying it and being asymptomatic, I'll be interested to see what their "more studies" entail for the women who aren't getting rid of it with the first round of medication.
