The Campaign for Real Ale in Cornwall (CAMRA Kernow) has called for new 'pasty-style' legislation following news that Sharp's beers will be brewed hundreds of miles from their Cornish roots, arguing the drinks should no longer be marketed as Cornish once all ties to the county are severed.

Dave Pedlar, CAMRA Kernow chairman, said: "This is a betrayal of the founders of Sharp's, the 40 people whose jobs are at risk and the locals that have supported this business for decades.

Since Molson Coors announced its intention to close Sharp’s, CAMRA has launched a UK-wide campaign and the Beer in the UK report to raise awareness of the tactics of global brewers in the British market. The Campaign highlights misleading marketing and how independent brewers struggle to get their beers onto bars.

I do wonder whether ‘protected designation of origin’ could apply to beer too. But alas, the brand is just commercial IP at the end of the day. Chewed up by the capitalist machine..

Potentially, but they don't use water straight from the ground/river these days it's all purified and minerals readded anyway. That said Molson-Coors isn't good for UK brewing.

Molson-Coors not good for UK brewing, but the water in Burton-On-Trent is up there with the best (take your point on water being purified though).

Burton snatch anyone?
