Socorro County officials work to keep community safe after back-to-back storm damage

Socorro County is getting hit hard by a storm moving through the area and is issuing an emergency declaration to request funding from the state while emergency personnel work to keep the community safe. After receiving 3-4 inches of rain over the weekend and 3 and a half to 4 inches expected Tuesday, county officials said they haven’t seen anything like this before.

For context this area gets ~10-12 inches of precipitation annually, and already had another 3-4 inches the week before.

Edit: one source puts their rainfall this year at over 12", with almost 6 of those inches this month alone.
