Microsoft makes billions of dollars every year. They command 60-80% of the desktop PC market. "Predictable and low-disruption" should be a defacto baseline.
I have fewer disruptions on my Arch machine, which is essentially bleeding-edge hobby software.
I have to use a windows computer for about 1 day a week for work currently. It always amazes me how fucking slow and laggy it is compared to my arch setup (which isn't riced/dialed basically at all). System update? Have fun waiting for 30 minutes with random restarts. Want to check your files? Forget about the onedrive nonsense, fucking file explorer takes my work laptop a full minute to open and be usable. It's really something.
Your Windows 11 experience appears to be worse than mine, which I would not describe as good. Windows 10 was almost tolerable, and I actually liked some earlier versions. Now I get a recurring bar in Outlook asking me if I want to summarize my email for the day, which comes back no matter how often I close it. I don't even try to use the start menu anymore, just type in what I want to use. Microsoft products are so bad these days that I can't see how they expect people to pay once, let alone monthly.
Yeah, i could have lived without most of the stuff added to Win10 from Win7, which was probably the pinnacle of Windows versions. WinXP was also a real game-changer - the power of NT with the user-friendliness and compatibility of Win98SE.
Yeah windows 10 was fine for me, and I really liked 7 and XP generally speaking. It really feels like 11 is constant obstacles and harassment from Microsoft. Maybe that's because I'm more of a "power user" but I can't imagine a normal person enjoying the experience
