VPN disconnecting when charging?

Has anyone noticed the VPN disconnecting when charging the phone? Using IVPN, but I saw reports of Proton VPN too.

Happens every time. The VPN app has all permissions and unrestricted battery use.

I can't enable "Always On VPN" because Android Auto needs the split bypass, and breaks if that is enabled.

The only time this happens to me is if I run a backup (settings > system > backup) and choose to back up the VPN app, which usually "reports no data to be backed up", so I exclude the VPN app from being included in my backup. Are you running a backup nightly when you charge?

oh, that's plausible... I have backups enabled when charging. I've excluded VPN apps, hopefully it works. Thank you!

That would be so sick if that's the fix!

Because I do the same thing, I back my phone up to a flash drive every night and have experienced this several times, so I'm glad my experience could help someone else out

I just tested with self-hosted Netbird (jetbird 1.18.10 client) and it stayed connected. Are you plugging into a charger or a PC that's trying to communicate with the phone?

Just a boring charger. I noticed it happens (nearly?) every time I leave it charging for a while, not every time I plug it in.

You reached the end
