Because the plot to assassinate Jovenel Moise was (allegedly) planned, financed and staged in the U.S., specifically in South Florida. The article does point to this, but prior reportings on the topic have been explicit on that very question.
You're not wrong, unfortunately there are barriers to justice being served in Haiti right now, especially with judges nopeing out of those proceedings as well as corruption and civil unrest. Personally, I would absolutely love to see them spend the rest of their lives in the National Penitentiary, but I'm also good with the U.S. getting their pound of flesh in this case.
I'm sure I'm not alone thinking this but I'm generally cynical and suspicious of anything the US does, given the centuries of interference and manipulation in Haiti (and the region at large). What is the US getting out of this? Never has been actual justice.
No, you are certainly not alone in thinking this. Beneath the surface, I'm not quite sure what the U.S. could be getting out of this, although I wouldn't be surprised if there was a multilateral objective here.

Why is the US involved in this?

I understand that but they were caught in Haiti and imo should be tried and punished by Haiti.

Thanks for the additional context.
