I turned my old iPad 1 into a Home Assistant photo frame (open source add-on)

I had an iPad 1 sitting in a drawer that couldn't run anything modern anymore, so I built SnapFrame. It's a Home Assistant add-on that serves a fullscreen slideshow as a plain web page, so any tablet with a browser can be the display.

The photos sit on a Samba share on your own network, iPhone HEIC files get converted to JPG, and there's no cloud service or account involved. Home Assistant can wake the frame when there's motion, show the weather for a bit and then go back to the photos.

Later I added a temperature badge in the corner and a bin-day reminder: you upload the leaflet from your municipality as a PDF and the collection dates are read out of it.

It's MIT licensed, and AI helped me with parts of the code and docs. I'd like to hear which old tablets people have tried it on.
