You can’t escape them. Unless you’re one of those people who are all like, “I don’t have a TV, or YouTube, or any social media.”
I pay for YouTube, use ad blockers, and don’t watch broadcast television, or use streaming services that force ads. And I use Mastodon, Discord, Lemmy and a third party app when I engage with Reddit.
Every time I’m in public and see television ads, I’m horrified at what is considered normal. It always seems like an escalation from what I remember when I had more exposure to television ads, and from growing up. But it’s probally not much different. Apart from what is being sold. I just have a decade and a half plus of avoiding it.
Sometimes I’m surprised a certain product or service has ads. And I’m saddened by how they promote themselves. It changes how I view the brand. Often it takes my view from neutral or slightly positive to negative.
I hate that I’m exposed to “radio” ads from Meta when in Walmart.

Damn thing bugs me because I do want to listen to David Bowie. Serves as a good reminder to smash that surveillance tech shit on the ground.
