Weird thing to write an article about.

Would it be inappropriate to raid the house of an 84-year-old who joined a far-right protest that was suspected of having been organised to incite racial hatred? I don't think so. The sole problem is the one we already knew about, which is that peaceful but disruptive protest has effectively been made subject to police permission.

  • peaceful but disruptive protest has effectively been made subject to police permission.
  • The person in question was not an 84-year-old who joined a far-right protest that was suspected of having been organised to incite racial hatred

Therefore not a weird thing to be writing an article about.

But they did join a disruptive protest that hadn't been approved. So... that's to be expected.

...approved? You've got to be fucking joking. If your protest is "approved" by the corrupt government you're protesting, then you might as well stay home.

I obviously don't disagree. I don't think it's weird to report on peaceful protests that are undemocratically banned; I think it's weird to separately report on the police doing normal police shit that happens when someone gets arrested.

"84 year old priest has house searched by police" is newsworthy if the priest didn't do anything illegal. It's not newsworthy if they did.

"Some people did something illegal which should not be illegal" is newsworthy, but that's not the content of the article.

It's reporting that's just trying to play on the emotions of the readers.

Did you not expect this kind of thing to happen? Do you think expecting it means you respect the people doing it?

Or do you not think about any of this and just respond rudely and stupidly because you don't like that this happened and think that I'm not expressing enough disapproval for your tastes?

Just because something is expected doesnt mean we shouldnt talk about it. Especially if, by omission, its assumed that nothing happened at all.

She's been arrested over 30 times, and it's getting loads of attention. This is what protestors want isn't it? The worst thing would be to be ignored.
