Do you trust journalists and news organizations?

cross-posted from: https://piefed.world/c/justpost/p/1400282/do-you-trust-journalists-and-news-organizations

Here is the thing: several months ago, I stopped trusting news organizations fully(for non-investigative reports) and started looking for the first source directly, instead of just trusting the organization reporting.

Partially, because what happened in the COVID days and mostly because of how much misinformation happening in the tech, economy, politics, business journalism and shitty framing.

I actually did not share or consider a good amount of news reports, because I couldn't find the original source for the reporting. Which made me unable to verify the claims and made me dismiss them.

Which make me ask, am I alone in this or does the general population distrust journalists too?

Generally, No. Even when I somewhat trust a source, I know there are plenty of other stories they aren't covering.

I tend to see media reports as guidance, then I go out and look for the original speech, the original report, etc., and come to my own conclusions.

I had a great high school English teacher for 3 straight years, and it wasn't until I was long out of school that I realized he wasn't really teaching us English, he was honing our Critical Thinking Skills, which I have come to appreciate as the most important thing I learned in school. Mr Clark made me impervious to cheap propaganda, and taught me what real sources are.

Depends on the place, long standing well reputed places are good, some online click bait bullshit with a clear agenda no.

There are a lot of similar charts out there with somewhat varied opinions, but places like AP and Reuters tend to be consistently ranked as just facts rather than editorialized story.
