Not sure what a "shock election" is but we could see that win coming from miles away, unfortunately.

And Mee-lon can get fucked.

BTW, did you know that the leader of the anti immagration, pro Germany and pro traditional family values party AfD lives in Switzerland in a same-sex relationship with someone from Sri Lanka?

Wait what? This I did not know. But I always wonder how she squares that with being AfD. Must be a favorite journalist question.

OK so how does she explain herself then?

edit: oh I see it now. It's about the distinction between being homosexual and being queer, the latter indicating support of gender and sexuality nonconformity. That's weak.

This.

The hard reality is that we are going to have to accept that most election results henceforth will be manipulated.

On an unrelated note, I’ve picked up archery.

Of course he was thrilled that Nazis won an election. So was Trump. He sent the word "Make Germany great again". Tells a whole lot about them. And their knowledge of history.

Luckily, a) Saxony Anhalt, the state they won, is only a neglectable small piece of redneck shithole on the course to go extinct. 1.8m voters, with numbers falling. In other words, about 2.5% of Germany. b) They promised heaven and earth to get voted, most of which they simply cannot turn into reality, because they fall under federal jurisdiction. Anything they could actually change is way, way down on their political agenda, and still limited by reality, and, of course, financial limits. And as a state where any young person with an education and chances for a job has been leaving for greener pastures for over a decade, there is not much money to be found. Especially when federal and foreign investment money dries up, which is to be expected.

I'm glad that the AfD isn't polling double digits in non-shithole states, otherwise I would find it way harder to dismiss this as a backwards-conservative blip on the steady march of progress.

Anybody who was shocked by the AfD win in the east has not been paying attention to the east of Germany since 1989.
