I was born in Agra in 1957, ten years after independence, into a world my mother's stories helped me understand long before I could remember it myself. This is that story — Indian railways history, English medium schools, the class divides within our own Anglo Indian community, and the migrations that scattered Anglo Indian families across Britain, Canada, Australia, and beyond.
