Any Lemmy android client that handles videos/gifs like Sync for Lemmy?

One thing that keeps me on Sync for Lemmy is the handling of videos/gifs and how it is mostly the same as images.

Things I am looking for is:

  • Handle must videos in-app with the building player
  • Ability to zoom in on videos
  • Videos control that are on the bottom of the player and not overlayed on the video itself taking up most of the screen
  • Video control and pause also that does not darken the video.l
  • Show the video playing or a still of the video in the post card instead of just a link.l
  • Wide support for different sites
  • Support for redgifs

Also it is a plus if they support piefed account authentication, but it is not a deal breaker. I guess I can create another account if needed.

I think I tried all the Lemmy clients and I think none have the zoom stuff. That is the most important. I may have missed some config options, and I hope I did because it is really sad that with Sync but rotting and no app works quite as well as Sync for me.

I am not sure what you mean by the first option.

Summit has some points you mentioned here. Piefed is also supported.

I landed on Summit after getting fed up with Sync being abandoned and broken. For me it's the best app by far.

About the first option, some clients use webview to show the videos instead of a native player and you see the history in the browser.

I am using summit also but it does not zoom videos and overlay the videos control on top of the video. It may seems like nothing but a common situation is seem a landscape video and I don't like to keep rotating the screen so I usually just zoom in. And the controls take up the hole vídeo.

If you mention this feedback in the Summit community, it's entirely possible it may get addressed in a future update. The dev is super responsive and seems open to feature requests.

I used Sync for about a year or two, switched to Summit after Sync was abandoned by its dev, and Summit has been pretty much the same experience as Sync for me

Boost for Lemmy does all of those except for the zoom function on videos.
